I am new to LM and have been trying to design an Oldblood characetr to cause carnage. Any advice would be really appreciated.

Oldblood-Great Weapon, Light Armour, Maiming Shield, Charm of the Jaguar Warrior

Ive only had one game but he flew round the board annihilating all, however my opponent was pretty bad.

Can't use a shield with a great weapon! Also, did your opponent realize he could dispel charm of the jaguar warrior?

Not sure what restrictions you are under, but most don't run him on foot. Get him on a Carnosaur for.. you guessed it.. carnage!

Sorry bout the shield I'd left that on from when he had the burning blade. I didn't give him a carnosaur cos it was just a 1000pt battle. I like him on foot because enemies think he wil just plod along and not get to their line quickly and so ignore him. When I upgrade to 2000 pts should I give him a carno?

You can't use the Oldblood at 1000pts as it is a Lord choice. At 2000pts though its best to put him on a Cold One or Carnosaur.
Use the setup on a Scar vet, you will have a 1 less attack but if something goes wrong and you fluff your attacks you will not be losing your general and won't give as many points away.
