Played my first game and won... but quickly started losing all the others. Hah. Dark Elves are tearing me apart with alot of Crossbow men and Corsairs with handbows with a Shadow Sorceress and Cold One Knights. I've been running roughly the following 15 Saurus Warriors 15 Saurus Spearmen 12 Skink Skirmishers 6 Chameleon Skinks Salamander and Crew Occasionally running with a Unit of Kroxigor or Skrox Unit. Using a Priest always, sometimes with an Oldblood or Scar-Vet It would seem that I really need to close the line fast or they just shoot the hell out of me. I try to use Lore of the Heavens' Iceshard Blizzard to nerf their accuracy which helps alot if it doesn't get dispelled. I have a pretty wide variety of models to use so Suggest away, just really need to get some tactical advice.
So is this about 500 points? To survive the shooting, I would combine those 2 saurus units. I wouldn't bother with an old blood, as a scar-vet should do fine to add some extra bunch. Aside from that, as a straight forward list, it seems like it should do better from there.
Depending on the points your playing you could look at Scar-Vet on CO to get across the board quickly and tie up the xbow units, making it easier for the rest of your army to close on his line. Give him a 1+ or 1 + Re-roll and he should get there safely then Coldblooded should keep him there until support arrives.
Yeah it's about 1000 Point battle. Yeah I was thinking that with the saurus blocks. It's our first games so its' pretty friendly. We normally play with big heros, I usually run my 150 Point Priest.
The lone Cowboy ScarVets are relly useful and cool in any point battle, just watch out for bolt throwers. You might wanna try Ruby ring on your priest and chuck a bunch of dice at the 2nd or 3rd level to get off 2-3D6 S4 hits, it kills quite a lot of crossbowmen. Cammo skinks are awesome in shooting wars due to their -2 to hit but they are pretty expensive so they might be hard to fit in 1000 pt battles. It would be useful if you could go into more detail on what your opponent is taking, as it might just be a problem of him taking a way cheesier list.
Wow that 25 point Ring Idea is great for Skink Priests. I will definitely try that out Yeah I had some Chameleon Skinks deployed in a Lake earlier... they were super effective! Thanks for the advice!
I believe you can only cast the lowest version of fire ball with the ruby ring. It is after all only a bound item level of 3. Using it, you cannot cast the higher versions of that spell.
you can indeed only cast the lowest lvl of fireball with the ring. its stated very clearly in the rules for bound spells.
Ah, my bad, I never play with bound spells since the change of rules in 8th. Still a D6 S4 hits can get a few kills every magic phase, just hope you get chain lightning or thunderbolt on the priest.
Odd. That was my exact mtach up for the longest time. Only I would always win. I ran 2 blocks of 25 saurus and his xbows were no match for t4 and their armor. And he stood at hs line and waited every game. So if I ever got my comet it did more damage to him than a purple sun or flame cage would do to me. In 1000pts one comet can win the game by itself. Having played and won that same 1000 pt match up, i got some advice for you. The lore of heavens is like gold at 1000 pts. Bring two skink priests and let it rip. The lore of heavens is imo undervalued at 2500 pts. And the lower the point value the better spells 5 and 6 get. 2d6 hits to all units within 2d6 in is borderline overpowered at 1000 pnts. You could hit the entire army. And 2d6 is easily 50% of most units. And chain lightning is just as good. 1d6 hits takes out a chunk of any unit at this point level. One time in this match up i cast it and it jumped twice. Killed 25% of one unit and he started taking break tests like crazy. 66% of his army fled off the table before any close combat took place. If you are having a problem with him nit advancing and shooting at you all game, the threat of chain lightning chaos will be a kick in the butt. Also you need bigger saurus blocks. And a small tip ive found usefu is march your troops within 5in of the cor before charging. They will shoot you or charge you. But either way you wont be losing combat resolution to his stand and shoot. But that is sometimes hard to do. Because they can move back or sometimes flank you if you try. Also charge units around them and try to overrun into them. But a lot of times i find myself charging spearmen he sets up next to his cor. Breaking the spears and reforming to face the cor resulting in a position well within 5in.
Hah yeah. I just needed to figure how how to use my army properly. I am constantly winning against them now. My only two opponents currently are Warriors of Chaos and Dark Elves.
