Basically, my Lizzies have been collecting dust since the 7th edition of both the main rulebook and the army rulebook. What I had when I stopped was: - stegadon with a skink priest and crew - carnosaur + old blood/kroq-gar rider - the prophet of sotek, a skink priest and chieftain - 2 saurus scar vets/old bloods - 1 unit of temple guard - 2 units of cold one calvary - 3 units of saurus warriors - 1 unit of skink skirmishers so what I'm wondering is how viable this build remains in the new editions? Also, I was thinking about going for a slann mage priest next, and afterwards building up my special category a little bit more. Is there any suggestions that any newer players can offer? Thanks in advance.
I am in a similar boat @Raptormann0205, but for me it is sixth edition where you are stating seventh. So I will be interested to read the answers you get as well. My available forces from memory look like this: + plastic stegadon with a skink priest and crew and the big hoop + metal stegadons with big bow and skink crew (4) + skink priests (2) + skink chieftain (1 or 2) + saurus scar vet/old bloods on foot + 1 unit of temple guard (20-24 strong) + 1 or 2 units of cold one calvary (somewhat unassembled) + saurus warriors ( ?__? strong; I need to count these) + 5-7 units of skink skirmishers with bows + terradons and riders (3-5 half-painted or unassembled) **The short answer is 8th edition is off the shelves (the rules books) in official GW stores and nobody knows the answer to your question for 9th.**
Before you start purchasing things, you might want to wait until 9th hits. We're in the middle of an edition change at the moment, even though we have a brand new book. But yeah, looks like a solid start. Nothing you can't work with! If I were to build from that I would look into getting myself a few more Skinks (1 box would suffice) and some support units. Things like a Bastiladon or some Terradons/Rippers. And you can never go wrong with a Sally! Oh, and welcome to the forum!
Thanks to the both of you for your advice, and thanks Qupakoco for your warm welcome. Now, would you recommend I run my skinks skirmisher or rank 'n' file? That and what support units do you find to be most effective? I know that the effectiveness of certain units may change with the new edition, but I guess just based off of what you've experienced with the 8th.
If you are not planning on taking Kroxigor, I would run them as Skirmishers. Units of 10 are the standard. Try to keep them light and numerous to give you some maneuvering advantage over your opponent. If you do take Krox, I'd throw them in the unit with Skinks. Unless you want to run your Krox alone, then stick with Skirmishers. Or if you are trying to cut points, a Cohort of 10 is almost as good as a Skirmishing unit of 10. Salamanders and Stegadons are the clear front runners and are probably the easiest to use. Cavalry can be standalone or support depending on how you build the unit. Terradons/Rippers/Razordons/Bastiladons are all decent choices as well.
