So I picked up the new codex and am looking for advice for dealing with undead. I see the blessed spawnings are gone which is sad was hoping to rely on the one that negates psychology. we never use special charecters, let's see right now the things I have for my army are 4x terradons 3x sallies 3x kroxigors alot of skinks and alot of saurus naturally a slann but the points would be to low to use an old blood or scar vet as needed 2 skink chiefs 2 or 3 priests and 5-6 cold one riders. I really do want to have a priest on a stegadon with the engine of the gods if I can. any advice for using that? and does the box come with a way to make the engine(was curious on how it was done)
The box for sure comes with the gear to make engine of the gods and it is a devestating weapon vs undead. Krox and Sallies are great against undead due to the fact that they as well cause fear. The best way to beat undead is to kill heroes and have tones of combat res.
yea things I worry about are his vampire in the cav of wights and his necromancer riding the corpse wagon in a squad of skeletons. last time I played lizzies against him he used his old undead before the rules change, a purely necromancer zombie army he won purely by attrition. really his vampire I don't worry about, if I can get the charge my cav should be able to wipe him out. it's his psuedo-slann that I worry about hard to get at him inside the skeletal meat shield I figure the steggie priest would be good for that thought. oh is there any offensive lore of heavens spell that I could cast while stuck in close combat on the steggie? read through the spell list but my main rule book is out of date and don't know if any unit on the board would mean he could cast it on the unit he is in CC with. Edit: Oh I forgot right now I think he can only muster a force of about 1500 points max.
guy i used to play against would come at me with 6 or 7 units of skellies and he would have either all decked out caster vampires or 3 casting vampires and 1 with the sword that raises with every wound in a unit of grave guard the general would have the helmet that gives a unit his WS this army was very scary he would just slowly march and raise and raise and raise even with a 2nd gen slann and two priests he was still raising a lot and as the game goes on his army just keeps getting bigger and he would keep his vamps in the back of units so you couldn't see them and you also couldn't challenge them usually by the time it came to close combat his 10 man units would be close to full strength watch out for this army it is very hard to stop even with combat res like shahryr says they win through attrition the best way i've found to beat this type of army is through VP's you can kill over 2000 pts. worth of skellies if you play it right and are lucky, if they play the blood knights varghulf and combat vamps you usually have a much easier time in my experience since there is only few units to focus on and you can usually gang up on them that being said blood knights are a pain in the @*# sometimes
engine of the gods is your best friend, 2d6 strenght 5 hits against undead that CANNOT be DISPELLED and ask yourself, who would win, a skink priest on a stegadon or a necro on a corspe cart, my moneys on the old thing with giant horns and a howdah, just remember they might be undead but hald your army is older than them fluff wise
you know, against undead i say ofc EoTG (includes all steggie types and a priest and chief!) I would also say Plaque of dominion!! whoho, I had real fun against TZEENTCH with this little piece of old raggy rags. (maybe stone what ever) after this, put it ON the cold one unit. put your scar-vet on a cold one with maybe burning blade of chotec or something, or sword of striking! 2+ to hit against those silly zombies/skellies and a lot of other stuff. bring in your terradons, and as you get a chief in the steggie pack, put him on a terradon give him bane head, maiming shield spear and light armour. (character/magician killer) pack up some skinks in big fat units for loads of combat rez. and flank charge the units to take away some of their combat rez.
I was thinking of putting a skink chief on a terradon with the plaque of dominion swoop in and if things get hairy swoop out. and while I am at it. in a 1500 point game me using a anceint steggie eotg setup is pretty expensive 430 points hah. so I want to save points on other things if I can and sadly maybe not do a scar vet unless I go for the blade of realities smack down. so my question is this, if I put a skink chief on a horned one can he join a squad of cold one riders? so far I know I want the eotg steggie and priest thinking of upgrading him with both level 2 wizard plaque of tepok and diadem of power so I have a better chance to dispel. then i definetly want my 3 sallies in there. maybe some swarms or the barbed razordons to intercept his cav the question I have with the eotg.....do I have to use dice to cast and risk a miscast?
My favorite way to kill undead, or anything really, is to stick a chief on a normal steggy and give him the bane head, then snipe his general with the giant bow. If it hits and wounds it multiplies in 2xD3 wounds. Then sit back and watch the fun as his army disintegrates.
yes, in addition. And late it says he don't use power dice to cast. maybe it don't but that's how I interpreted it.
uhhh? nnormal english please. but as i interprete it the EOTG goes off doing it's power, and then the preist casts spells besided the eotg power. if the priest cant cast any spells if he uses the EOTG, then the EOTG or the Priest really suck.
no, he can't use his spells if he's using the EoTG, that's bad. But these abilities is great and can't be dispelled.
could you explain why he can't or why you interpret it as such. oh and to keep it on topic would it be better to give the plaque of dominion to a skink chief on a terradon or kite that chief out for damage?
If you take 2 skink priests and give one the bane head, give the second a the blood statuette of spite.Cast the Bane head at the start of the battle on the general and in the first magic Phase when you have done all your spells cast BLood Statuette of spite.Bane head double all wound taken and Blood statuette of spite Makes a the general take a toughness test,if fails he takes wound and it keep going untill the character is dead or the general pass a toughness test.So if he fails the toughness test he will take two wounds because of the bane head.THAT IS HOW I KILLED THE VAMPIRE COUNT.GOOD LUCK.
No it does not, the person holding the bane had is the one who gets double wounds against the person he has used it on.
agreed, he takes double wounds from that one character, and that one character can hold the statuette. sorry to ruin your days bubba gar.
"2d6 strenght 5 hits against undead" While that would be nice, it's still only D6 str 5. They do ignore armor though, Grave Guard beware! "not do a scar vet unless I go for the blade of realities smack down." Can't get the blade of realities until you do a 2000+ point game, as scar-vets can only take 50 pts of magic items. "stick a chief on a normal steggy and give him the bane head, then snipe his general with the giant bow." Heh, I guess until GW tells us the Skink Chief's items don't affect the Giant Bow, this should work. Pretty silly of a vampire player to run his general outside of a unit though. Burning Blade of Chotec - A scar vet with this weapon will rip through anything VC have to offer, even vampires will shudder with fear. Flaming is huge against them, and -4 AS will put a big hurt on Grave Guard. Skink/Krox blocks - Vamps have big blocks of static res but can't dish out much damage and don't have much armor. A big block of these guys will be able to run riot vs. VC! Undead can't flee charges, so these should be able to get some good flank charges off, which will probably make most VC units go poof. EoTG - Vs. undead this is a "no brainer". Just watch out as usual for getting the skink priest killed (basically don't get this unit flanked). I think the juiciest targets for the EoTG are his banshees (whatever his non-corp ghost things are). As I recall those will scream at you and hurt you based on your Ld stat, so cold-blooded doesn't help us. Spear saurus - Tons of str 4 attacks is a great way to evaporate his blocks quickly, each kill you do is basically doubled. Terradons - Rear charges by these guys (assuming you are at least 3 models strong) will net you a few more kills and tip combat res 2 more in your favor. I seem to recall VC have some sort of skirmishy zombie, which would be a perfect target for terradons auto-hit "drop rocks" attack. Ancient Steg/chief/warspear - If he's really going horde-army, this guy can be your "blockbuster". With low points I'd probably go for the scar-vet with burning blade though.
I knew flaming affected tomb kings but thought it didn't affect vampire counts, which uniters are hurt by fire?
