Hello everyone, I've got the final round of a campaign coming up and I'm in a nasty situation. You see, it's supposed to be a 3 person Free For All, but do to crushing one of my opponents and the other faithfully serving that fellow, it's become a 2v1 match-up. Their Alliance is not good for me....not good in any way, shape, or form. I need help! Many of you are extremely good tactitions, so please assist me in figuring out how to trump them. One of them is an Empire that likes Steam Tanks and 1 cannon, the other is a High Elf with I believe an Archmage. My list and the High Elf fellow's list are on the "Campaign Round 2: TAKE THE CASTLE!" thread in the Battle Reports section. The High Elf guy has up to 1000 points to edit his army with or hire 2 additional assasins. I also know that I'll have some form of a castle behind or next to my troops, but I don't know how large. And The Empire guy has hired 4 Assasins to take me out, meaning he rolls 4 D6 and for every 4+, one of my characters is randomly not allowed to participate in the battle. So, knowing that there's not much I can do to halt this, I've called in a High Elf ally of my own and given him 1,000 points to aid me with. It should be 2-3 full sized tables put together. Any, and all, advise is welcome. Please help me.
This is the reason I refuse to play 3 player free for all, it always turns out into a 2 on 1. I don't know much about steamtanks but if they function like chariots maybe some difficult terrain. If not I suggest using trees or swamps to slow them down. You basically have two choices 1) Go full defense, bunker down and surround yourself with terrain, swamps, trees, ect. 2) Try and outmanauver the enemies, use swamps and trees to go around, beside or behind opponents and shoot them down. However approach #2 will be really hard and force your army to be divided. So personally I'd go with approach #1 and hope that the opponent get bored and decide to fight themselves a little before getting to you.
Ok, I bring news. The good news is that my High Elf friend gladly accepted to aid me and is able to bring 3 Level 2 High Elf mages and 1 unit of spearmen, and since I'm "defending" basically the manager has declared that I get to place the terrain whereever I want, so I should be able to muster a formidable defence, maybe force my opponents into a narrow space since they'll have to fight one another if they get into combat. And I have no idea about how much terrain I'll have at my disposal, nor what the goal of the scenario is, nor what my opponents have in store, nor how far apart we'll be, nor where my High Elf mercenaries willl be, nor how many characters they'll take out. Any ideas?
If the highelf is lending you his magic, you may as well build a magic heavy army also, use the spear men and temple guard and saurus spearmen to keep the mages safe then blast the crap out of anything that nears. also try to keep his mages near you so if he turns on you you can crush hi,
steam tanks = Nasty chariot is like a fly to them, but easy way to beat one in a 2k game is blade of realities, magic is almost useless againt them. terrandons with drop rocks might be useful or poision
lore of metal with a slann, take the disc where you get all the spells.. there is a metal spell that if it goes off the warmachine (steam tank!) is renders unable to do anything... very important and awesome when it goes off
Steam Tank is also immune to Blade of Realities' special effect, since it passes all LD tests. However, a Carnosaur can eat a Steam Tank in one round.
I bring the excellent news that I won the battle quite easily, actually, look for it in the Battle Reports section!
Yeah you don't want to fight a steam tank.. Basically everything that could potentially kill it easily, it has protections against. The only good thing is it has the potential to harm itself.
Lore of metal is the bane of the stank. First time I fought it, turn one my slann shot off a Spirit of the forge, and did 8 wounds to it, rendering it useless. My friend was pissed as he had bought the 60$ model the day before.
