Facing possibly Skaven Chaos Dwarves Empire High or Dark elves. 1600 Points Slaan 275 2 Disc (Foc+Foc [+1 PD Lmastr]) Cupd Hnds, Life, DS scroll 395 20 Temple Guard 355 40 Saurus (Horded 10 wide 4 deep) HW+S 470 2 Salamander H-packs 150 10 Chameleons 120 10 Skink Skirms 70 1560 Leaves 40 points open for magic items (maybe the Champion with the TG) I have Cold one calvary, more skinks, and more saurus. I have had some success with 2 blocks of 30 but... Please let me know...
Re: LF input 1600 points Cupped hands and dispell scroll are both arcane so the slann can't have them both.maybe take those points and make the slann the BSB as well? Looks a pretty solid combat army, not go any real speed so if you come up against a empire or chaos dwarf gun line it could be a hard slog across the battlefield, life should help but still will be tough. Chameleons work better ( in my experience) in units of 5, so I would split the ten into two fives, gives you more flexibility. You could give the champion a magical weapon or alternatively give them a magic standard? Banner of swiftness? Another 10 skink skirmishers wouldn't be unwelcome either
Re: LF input 1600 points Updated: A choice between these two: Slaan 275 2 Disc (Focus Rum+Mast) Cupd Hnds, Life, 370 20 Temple Guard F/C DS scroll 380 30 Saurus F/C 360 2 Salamander H-packs 150 10 Chameleons 120 10 Skink Skirms 70 10 Skink Skirms 70 10 Skink Skirms 70 Slaan 275 2 Disc (Focus Rum+Mast) Cupd Hnds, Life 370 20 Temple Guard F/C DS scroll 380 20 Saurus F/C 250 20 Saurus F/C 250 2 Salamander H-packs 150 10 Chameleons 120 10 Skink Skirms 70 I must break them. I want to win. I need to keep the Slaan up and going while I deal with monsters and things like grey seers (which are the stupidest OP thing in the game next to the Hellpit Abom) Thats why I took the Focused rumination for the extra power dice. With throne up and the cupped hands, I will be rezzing alot of models with successful casts and able to unload on the enemy when I roll strong power dice. So, which one do I use?
Re: LF input 1600 points I like the first one quite a bit, two nice solid combat blocks, and as you say with life you should be able to regen them. 2 sallies to burn people and then a bunch of skirmishers to take care of chaff and low armour monsters. The only thing is that a dispell scroll is an arcane item so only models with a wizard level may take one, a TG champion therefore isn't allowed to have a dispell scroll, the only way to get a scroll into a lizard army that has a cupped hands slann is to bring a skink priest as well
I am still fairly new, but I am nervous taking the block of TG into close combat, even though they are so strong, I have used them to protect the Slaan exclusively, but I am open to suggestions.
If you're going to play with 20 temple guard, I would strongly advise using them as a primary combat block. They're great for locking up multiple enemy blocks and shrug off flank charges (with stubborn). I like the first list as well- my thought would be to trade in the cupped hands for becalming cogitation. You already are guaranteed miscast protection with the throne and becalming is great for neutralising strong enemy wizards. I also agree with Rhodium- taking 2x5 units of chameleons will be more manoeuvrable (and, hey you can always place them next to each other if you like!)
Ok so I am making smaller skirmisher trays ;-) I am nervous about bring the unit with my Slaan into base contact with well much of anything for fear of losing him to close combat I guess, but without doing so, pigeonhole myself to using those models for little or nothing. I also really hate not having a DS scroll, maybe throwing a skink priest in and dropping one group of skink skirmishers...
