Some of my gaming group still will only play 5th edition(I know it's old but these are serious veteran gamers) I have been able to convince one of the guys to try 8th edition out as I don't want to play 3 rule sets (another group plays only 7th this really gets confusing for me lol). Anyway to the point, I want to make a list that is playable but not too overpowering so he then just says right I am not playing 8th anymore and goes back to 5th. It will probably be 3K list as this is the standard size we play in the group. any ideas will be greatly appreciated
5th ed. is hero hammer. only played a few games, didn't like it because fielding and army so the heroes on both sides have something to kill was pointless, to me. But never the less 5th ed is all about maxing out your heroes and making army slayers out of them. unit's you field don't matter all that much. 7th ed. was about small regiment's of skink's, engine of the god's and saurus oldblood, I also like teradons in that ed. and it was about controlling the movement faze, and charging your opponent. and 8th is all about our slan and hordes of huge saurus unit's, lot's of salamanders, and some other stuff, trying to out last your opponent in combat. different editions totally different play games really. in both 5 and 8th you will need a slan and TG. all thou the slan functioned different in 5 ed. as it was carried by 4 TG champions as I recall making it a nasty cc hero. (I had a small lizzie army, but played bret. then, so I don't really remember what is needed) ach... how could I forget, skink with short bow's and kroxes . in 7 th you want 12-16 kroxes. and in 8th look through the army list's and read some comment's.
I know what I need to take to make a really good powerful list, but what I mean is I don't know what to take to make sure he has a chance, as he never makes the best of lists anyway and he will be new to this style of play. 5th Edition Slann was amazing level 4 Wizard 8 attacks and 8 wounds with S6 T5 also the fact you can add 5 magic items up to any points value made him ridiculous lol
If you want to give some one a win, just play bad. Don't combo charge, expose your flanks and make other stupid mistakes. There is no excuse for making a terrible list.
