Ok I have yet to play an 8th edition game but there is a tournament at the local hobby store and I am wanting to play in it. I might as well learn and have a chance at some awesome door prizes. (they always make sure you get your money's worth) Here is what I have: Slann Mage Priest 2 boxes of Saurus 1 box of Temple Guard 1 Salamander 2 Stegadons 6 Chameleon Skinks 1 Skink Priest 1 Terradon 1 box of Skinks I am just seeing what I can turn this force into. Obviously, I am thinking one block of Saurus Warriors and then a block of Temple Guard with the Slann. (yes i understand i will prolly have to buy one more box of TG) But other than that I am curious if I should buy 1 or more Salamanders or 2 more Terradons or just another box of Saurus Warriors and use them as the back rows of my TG and field one or two units of Saurus Warriors with the Stegs. Thank you for any help that is offered. T
should of probably mentioned that there isn't any comp scores or anything as long as it is legal in the eyes of GW its legal here, so special characters and power scrolls and such are legal T
with 2 boxes of saurus you'll only be able to field 1 reasonable sized unit for 2250 points. i'd suggest getting another box, which would put your saurus model count up around 48ish, and then you ca n make 2 blocks of 25 if you want or if you just wanna run 1 block of 30 or so you're 2 boxes will be fine. i'd probably go with 2 because i love saurus but yeah, maybe someone with a little more experience should chim in.
I was thinking that as well another box of saurus so that I could field two units of 20-25 ish but I just did not know the basics really of army make up it has been a long time since I have played. I have gathered that I need to take cupped hands of the old ones, but as far as magical banners and the like I am fairly clueless on. Thank you for the response and I am leaning towards at the very least 1 more box of saurus and 1 more salamander
I would definately get more salamanders. Get 3 so you can run two units of two. I would get more chameleons instead of terradons. But, if you want to go that route, get 3 more terradons and run one as a skink chief on a terradon. For your core, you will probably do better with saurus (maybe a unit of 25 or so) and TG (20) to protect the slann. I like running skink cohorts with kroxigors. You could use a unit like that as a flanking unit to the saurus or the TG.
tg with flaming banner standard of discipline on your slann. thats pretty common and you're not gonna get much better.
