For a 1000pt lizardmen army, as a first timer. Your best bet would be to go with something pretty basic

Is the cost of the models an issue? if so it's not hard to make a 1000pt list out of a battalion box + maybe 1 other thing.

EG- (made from battalion box + Steg) (dont have book on me so points values may be slightly off)

level 2 skink priest, lore of beasts, dispell scroll - pts (comes from stegadon kit)

30 saurus, full command (spears) - pts
    12 skirmishers (holds priest) -pts

6 cold one riders + spears +command- pts

Ancient stegadon + sharpened horns - pts

That comes out at roughly 950pts, and uses most of the battalion box models, 2 riders left over.

    Heya
Actually budget never really bothers me, is it possible to bring a carnosaur on the game? the model is wicked!

For 1000pts a carno isnt really possible, IIRC scarvet + carno with no items is already close to 250pts. Although if you play end times rules it is definitely possible (although probably very risky)

If cost is a lesser factor then your 1000pt list could look very different. Salamanders are incredible at lower points costs, so 2 packs of those in nearly an auto include. Chamo skinks also do well.

You will need to give an indication as to what kind of army you want to field, a mobile army with many skinks and supporting flying units, or more of a hammer and anvil type setup with a big saurus block and units to flank charge with.
As for magic in 1000pts, the special character Tetto'Ekko is a very nice choice, he works best in a unit of skirmishers ( despite his special rule to go in cohort) And his ability to grant vanguard to other units is incredible for your skirmishers and saurus cav.

I suggest proxying models and just playing around with a friend, find out what playstyle you enjoy and buy models to suit.

A battalion box is ALWAYS a good start though

    Welcome to the jungle,

Carnosaurs are not possible as the others have said, it is however very much posible to start buying an army that builds into a carnosaur. Most Carnosaur lists run 2 priests for at least some magical defence(, even in End times you will not be running both a Slann and a Carnosaur in any list under 3000P, as you then simply have to little models. Ad in some more monsters to create a target rich enviroment for your opponents cannons. else you will more often then not lose your prized DINOSAWS at turn one. Also consider taking a lot of skinks to redirect and to kill warmachines, Chameleons and skirmisher skinks should be your priority. Some salamanders against large blocks and maybe some Terradons for more warmachine hunting and you should have around a solid 2000 P list. Keep it low on the sarusses and the temple guard, they have little use in the Monster mash type lists you would have around 2000 and 2400 points(these are the normal playing sizes)
