Okay, so new the Arcane Journal: The Razing of the Westerlands gives all armies a host of new Common Magic items. As a Legacy faction this is great because it can really open up some new opportunities. So I thought we could start discussing some new tech/builds. Here is some I have so far 1- Spectral Doppelhammer Slann- A Spectral Doppelganger with the Meteor Hammer. Always wounding on a 3+ with 2d6 AP-3 hits sounds more like 40k that TOW. Great on a Renegade Slann in a TG bunker or an Ethereal Slann (if not playing Renegades). The real question is do you risk not taking a lore familiar when playing renegades if specking into this build. 2- Sniper of Sorrow- Finally a reason to take the Skink Chief again. Sword of Sorrow on a Chief on a Terradon becomes one of the ultimate mobile snipers in the game. One of the few characters out there with BS 5 natively. Sure there are some pointy ears out there that can get to BS 7 with this thing, but they aren't flying and able to put themselves anywhere. And they don't have drop rocks to really make sure they get that lone character. If Banshees are giving you trouble in your Meta, this guy will do the trick IMO 3- Scout Sniper of Sorrow- Similar Concept, but you combo this with the Trailblazer's Hauberk. You add a chief to a unit of skinks that are scouting. I'd do this instead if you were specifically having to deal with Warmachines and engineers all the time. 4- Hel-Forged Cowboy- The Hel-Forged Axe is an odd weapon without many uses IMO, but this seemed mentioning. Scar-Vet on a Cold-One with the HF Axe and Hide of the Cold Ones. I'd only do it if joining a unit of Cold on Cav because you don't have the points for the mandatory horned one on a Solo rider. But in a unit, you now have some real quality armour bane attacks (4, 5 on the charge) at WS 5 S6. 5- Cackling Cowboy- For the Old Blood not on a Carnosaur. Cackling Blade + Talisman Of Proctection. Once again, I would only do this if joining a unit of Cold Ones as you won't have points for a Horned one. Its expensive, BUT on the charge you are talking between 7 to 12 WS6 S6 attacks. If you wanted to be silly, you forgo the Talisman of Protection and instead take the new Potion of Fervour and a Charmed Shield. Charmed shield gives you that one critical ward save vs a killing blow, but then you get +D3 attacks. Since it is a modifier to the Characteristic and the Cackling Blade isn't, this means you don't have to worry about the max 10 cap. So your attack range on the charge is now 8-15 WS6 S6 attacks. The fact its only AP -1 is kinda moot at that point. 6- Chakax: The Eternity Warden- Do you miss having this special character? Well good news you can (kinda) make him again. Scar Vet w/ Greatweapon, Levitating Shield and Venom of the Firefly Frog. The Levitating Shield is his "Helm of the Prime Guardian" and the VotFFF makes the great weapon his Star-Stone Mace. 7- Air Traffic Control Slann- Really the only place to park the new Arc Lightning Rod is the Slann. Since it uses unmodified LD, you can't trust it to skinks and your saurus should be specked out to fight. Not much to this, but I wanted to mention it because if you are playing Renegades, you can use Cold-Blooded on this. Near as possible to a guarantee of shutting down Fly for a Turn. If your meta is Baloons and/or Pegasus all the time, seems a worth while investment. 8- No Magic Allowed Slann- Slann w/ High Magic + Becalming Cogitation + Becalming Orb + Wand of Jet. The Becalming Orb has a Bound Spell that gives a 15" bubble of -2 to casting around the Slann. Basically a second Drain Magic, but this one is not a "Remains in Play" spell, rather just an effect that lasts a whole turn, so there is only one chance to dispel it. But stack it with Drain Magic and spells are near impossible to get off. And even if you opponent does case them, you then have Becalming and the Wand of Jet to just say "No". As an added note, I like giving the spell eater axe to my Temple Guard champion, for some sweet MR2 on the unit with the slann bunkered in it. Because its a bound spell in the item I don't think Arcane Vassal works here, BUT if you put the orb on a skink instead, you could cast drain magic through it to have this bubble of -4 effect elsewhere if you wanted.
