    Hello everyone.
My name is Francesco and I come from Italy (I apologize for any grammar/English terms error that I will surely make) :D .
I started collect and paint my lizardmen army 3 months ago, and I eventually played some matches, losing the biggest part of them due to my low experience with the game itself.
One thing I'm sure about is: lizardmen are really hard to play while they are really versatile, so let's say it's a bit difficult for me to understand many things alone (and it is difficult also for my playing group actually). So, after ours spent reading any bits of this forum (shout out to Scalenex for his tactica index, really useful, and to everyone who gave their advice in this forum), I decided to ask some noon and direct question by myself, trying to be useful also to other newbe like me (cause I hope the answer to my question could help anyone).

My biggest concern right now is about the army list. I play with a group of friend with euro ruleset (2400 pt, no special characters, max 4 skink schirmish) and here in Italy a big part of the tournament are ruled by euro ruleset. I read a lot about single unit tactics and I'm sure I'll find out what's the best way to play them... By playing them a lot :smug: .
I think I understood one thing about army building: it's basically based on your slann's set up and lore, and basically you have to synergyze the list filling the slann's "tactical gaps" and using the slann's power to get your other units in an advantage position. And now you will say: "ok cpt obvious, what's the point?".
Let's say I want to learn how to build an army based on the following slann setup:

Wandering deliberation slann. (what I get is that temple guards are suggested due to high number of low-rise costs spells, so less risk of miscast, + you will need some high str hitter cause of lack of high str hitting spells)
Lore of the life slann. (suggested temple guard + razordont standard, bastiladont w solar engine and ancient step with EOTG are welcome
Focus of mystery (lore of high magic) slann. (I don't really know what to say about, I understood nothing about how to build an army with this little guy, and that's the one I'm more interested in cause of his versatility).

For each one of these lore choice, what would you suggest about building a semi competitive (no skink cloud plz) army (2400 pt euro ruleset, no special characters and max 4 skink schirmish)? What the army will need? Will the slann go solo? Will he go into a tg bunker? Will the saurus core be a viable choice? What rare/special would you play/suggest for any of the lore you can apply to slann and why?
It could be really great if in one topic we could store so much information which could be a huge help for a newbe who want to learn the basics of army building.

Bonus question: my friend explained that there are basically 3 types of units : chaff, hammer and anvil. With my little experience I understood that many of the lizardmen units are kinda hammer+anvil units and they don't really excel in any of those role. Is my impression wrong? Could you list all the unit you would consider hammer and all the unit considered anvil?
Sorry about the wall of text, hope that some of you will have the patience to answer to the big number of questions I made.
Best regards! And thanks for reading.
    Francesco.

Re: New Lizzies player, asking for hints about army building

First of all, welcome friend. Greetings from Finland. I also play basicly only with ETC rulings and am familiar with its limitations, but especially all of the good stuff it gives. Its basicly just a very good thing for lizards.

Anyway, as Ive said before, I dont know how to be or build an army which is competetive without a skink core, (usually i have 4 skirmishers, 3 with javelins, 1 with blowpipes, 3x 18-20skink cohorts with musicians).
I am also not in love with High Magic. As I think WD is our best choice. After that Death, Life and Light.

Basicly I go for three different builds If I want to crack skulls.

    WD Slann + 3 Scarvets + skink priest + skink core + 2x terradons, a group of TG/Cold ones

    or

Cold one bus, 2 Oldbloods, 2-3 Scarvets + skink priest + tetto if it is not ETC + skink core + 2x terradons

    or

Monstermash 2x Carnos, 3x Stegadons, 2x skinks with cube and dispel scroll + skink core naturally.

Re: New Lizzies player, asking for hints about army building

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried Wd slann sometimes (the list was a bit different though), and once i tried the double carno (really funny :D ).
I see your point about building a competitive army without skink core, the fact is that i started playing like 2 months ago, so i dont really mind being competitive (that's why i talked about a semi-competitive list). I want to learn how to build a list wich is funny (and easier to play than the all skink core list) and pretty efficent vs all comers, so that i can use that list A LOT and in every game i play in order to actually learn something about gameplay and tactics. In a few words: i want to build a solid list :smug: .
And while i think i understood something about wd slann and life slann, i really dont know where to start with high magic slann! Should i bunker him? With how many temple guards? How can i protect him from cannons / shooting if he is not bunkered? What units synergyze better with that lore? Should i go aggressive or passive? Everything is so unclear about that :smug:
