Hey all, new here, so yell if I break any rules. I'm new to WHFB and am starting with Lizardmen because quite frankly, they're the best looking army. I've made a 1,000 point army after 2 games, and am looking for advice to beat my cheesy friend who also started and has a 1000 point skaven army with a hellpit abomination >.< . 10x Skink Skirmishers w/Skink Brave 24x Saurus Warriors (Sacrificial fodder) 3x Salamander hunting pack w/Extra Skink herder 1x Skink Priest 1x Saurus Scar-Veteran w/Great Weapon, Light Armour, Cold One, Battle Standard Bearer, Dragonhelm, Dawnstone (aimed for 1+ save) 5x Saurus Cavalry (cold ones) Total cost = 996 Advice welcome!
HPA in a 1000 point game doesn't really sound like fun to me. There's not much that can counter it at that point level. Anyway onto the list. I think you could use some more bodies to deal with the beast. Also I think you could use some higher strength attacks. I would suggest on taking a skrox unit. Preferably even with 3 kroxigors. With this in mind I would drop the cavalry unit. It is very easy to deal with skaven and has a lot of points tied up to it. I think I would also decrease the number of salamanders to two. Two is still brutal and I think the third doesn't really bring that much to the unit, only more points. These two would bring you up to somewhere around 230 points or something like that. It's almost enough to get you a skrox unit with two kroxigors. I would try with that to counter the beast. I'd also throw away the skink brave from the skirmishers. Since your opponent is running HPA he can't have a WLC you are quite safe to run the BSB solo and have nice asv on it. Hoperfully this gives you some ideas how to counter it. I'm not saying this is the only way but I would still suggest more bodies to the field in any case. BR Agrem
Thanks, never really considered a Skrox unit, they seem to be the meat shields I was looking for! Rules query about this list though as I don't quite understand the BSB thing. The Scar-Veteran *has* to my general as far as I understand (don't even know if this is right) so does that mean I can't make him a BSB? I find it even more confusing as I can't find in the Lizardmen codex where it says who can be the BSB. I did say I was new at this.
The Scar-Vet HAS to be the general since he has the highest leadership, and thus can't be the BSB aswell. Skrox is one way to go in dealing with the HPA. A Flaming Banner for the CoC could also help. Another approach would be to get some high skink/chameleon numbers in there, and possibly a Burning Blade of Chotec on the Scar-Vet. If you did run a Flaming Banner on the CoC, having a mounted GW scar-vet in the unit would be an outstanding way to deal with the HPA. I agree that 3 Salamanders is way overkill, even two will burn skaven infantry to a crisp, and the Saurus will smack them around aswell. I would trade the 25 points from the BSB for a dispel Scroll personally.
Yea but in this case since the scar-veteran has been promoted to BSB he can't be the general. Nothing prevents you from doing this since there is another character present. This means that when there is skink priest in the list the skink becomes the general even if it doesn't have the highest leadership. BR Agrem
Oh, thats true actually, just looked it up. Never came up in my lists I guess. Anyway I do feel that you can skip the BSB at 1000 points, since you only have 250 points of hero allowance. A Dispel Scroll or a Plaque of Tepok would be a better way to fill out those points imo.
That's actually really handy to know! Purpose of having the BSB on the scar-vet was to avoid getting stupid on the cold one. Last time I played, he spent *THREE* turns being stupid and had one round of combat.
