Ok my friend might be starting up lizardmen as his fantasy army, hes stuck between empire choas warriors and lizards. And if he did start out he would be making a starter 1000 point army that he would then be able to build on. The ideal list would probubly be a well rounded one, I.e. Abit of shooting and Combat and even a decent amount of magic. Also if anyone would take the time to actually help us out, it would be helpfull if you could tell us which boxes he will, need and if possible the chespest ways to make it, such as simple hero conversions, which i could probubly help him with easily. Also as he hasnt extactly tried them out before afew tips on how to use them and what he could really expect from a lizardman army. Owe anotherthing, if you note a magical item unique to lizards it would be helpfull if you say what it does plz. Thx in advance ill probubly check this post in the morning
A good start could be: Priest, lvl 2 Plaque of Tepok (knows +1 spells) 30 Saurus Warrios Full Command 10 Skink skirmishers 10 Skink skirmishers Stegadon Salamander Salamander But there is basically an infinite number of ways to build a 1000 pt list that can be built up to 2400 (or whatever point cap you will play). Saurus ScarVets can easily be converted from normal Saurus Warriors (can be made a lot cooler from Temple Guard bits tho), priest can easily be done from the normal skink sprues. If you want to save money then unit fillers is a good option. Skinks are cheap enough but for saurus unit fillers can make the unit look better and save you some cash. Search the painting part of this forum for "unit filler" and you'll get a ton of results.
I really like your list that you have given me and i will be testing this list on saturday ( proxy FTW! ) To bump up the list to 2000 would it be smart to basically add a slann, put the skink priest on a engine of the gods, bump up the unit of saurus to 40 and skinks 20 each and then fill the rest of the points with stegadons? or will i need a temple guard unit to put the slann in? Saurus are fine in units of 30 at any point cap, more than 30 is generally overkill, but you might want to consider adding a second unit and going for 2x24 or 2x30. You also want to keep your skink skirmishers at 10-12 in size as they need to be expendable and cheap, but adding another 2 units of 10 skinks is a good addition to 2000 pts. Skink priests have limited use in 2000 pts to be honest, the Slann is a total power house and doesn't need any support caster, but a scroll / cube of darkness carrying lvl 1 priest can be useful. The Engine of the Gods is a disappointment in 8th edition as bumping your priest up to lvl 3 doesn't generate any additional dice and artillery is better now so its a pretty easy target for most armies. Temple Guards are pretty lacklustre in my opinion. 1 miscast from the Slann often means loosing 50% of the unit, no shields in CC means that they can fairly easily be ground down by elite infantry and both Death and Shadow have spells that can obliterate most of the unit in 1 spell. Some people seems to like them tho. If you look around in the army list part of this forum you quickly get a feel for what the "cookie cutter" or "standard" build is, then just add some personal tweaks.
