Hey guys, new lizardmen player-to-be here. I haven't gotten down to buying anything yet so I figured I would ask around on here and see what you guys thought would be the best and most cost efficient way to start up a decent (army wise and price wise) lizards force!

    In this order:
    Army builder license
    Codex

Open army builder, enter the contents of the battle box, then enter the units that made you want to buy the army, then find out what it takes to make the army legal.
    In my case it went:
    battle box
    slann
    stegadon
and all I needed to make it legal was
    saurus warriors
    Done.

I agree with brokbrok. If you plan on playing this game for any period of time army builder is worth the money for the license. After that buy a battalion and whatever model you love. For me it was the carnosaur. From there just put all that into army builder and fill in the gaps. You can always proxy models or pick up more models later if you decide you want to try out something different.

Thanks for the replies guys, My local store has army builder so I never really felt a huge need to invest in it, however, I did exactly what you guys said a few days ago, bought a steg, battalion, slann, and a box of saurus warriors. I also want to build up an army around a carnosaur too so I'll be ordering one this week.

It sucks that if you want a carnosaur and a slann you can't do it in less than a 4000 point army. That being said, don't despair about investment and look up "warhammer unit filler" in google. Apparently it's completely kosher to put dioramas in your movement trays now, so you can have 1+ dudes represent 4-8 dudes and if it looks good, no one will care.

Really? I had no idea you could do that but it's pretty awesome sounding! I searched what you said and all I got was a site about magnets and nothing else really pertaining to warhammer so I wasn't exactly sure what I was supposed to be looking for, though admittedly I only looked for a few seconds because I was working on some other stuff at the time. I want to have a larger more versatile army, so I'm planning to get stuff and make an army built around a carnosaur hero, and one built for a slann. Not too hard or expensive to do from what I've seen. While I'm in this thread, for a 2500 pt game, whats the usual size of saurus warriors people tend to field? I could make two units of 20 as it is now, but I feel like they would get shot up pretty quick.
