Here is my go at my first attempt of a Lizardmen army list. Please rip this apart if its awful. I just kinda went with my gut. All help is much appreciated. I do plan on growing this army just taking things slow so I don't break the bank. Thanks all!

    Lords
    Slann Mage-Priest
(Still not sure which Lore to use)

    Core
    2x Saurus Warriors x15
    Full Command
    Spears

    2x Skink Skirmishers x10
    (blowpipes or javelins? not sure)

    Bastiladon
    Solar Engine

    Welcome to the forum!

As for the ripping, it's not bad at all!

A Slann is too expensive to be used as a lord in 1000 points. Only 25% maximum on lord choices I'm afraid.
For characters my choice would be:
Scar-vet with some gear. Give him a 1+ armour save and a nice cheapish weapon, that's a solid build at all times.
Skink priest, lore of beasts, level 2, maybe a dispell scroll.

Your core is decent. But your saurus definetaly need more bodies. 15 is very few, even at 1k.
Saurus armed with spears need more bodies than their HW/S counterparts. So try to up them to at least 20 models.
If neccessary, go with 1 larger unit and some extra support.

The skinks are great, 2 units is exactly the amount you want to have in these smallish battles. As for jav and blowpipe:

    That should help you out!

The bastiladon is an excellent unit, especially coupled with a skink priest. Be wary of getting him into a dangerous combat though!

Now I'm not keeping track of the points, but if you still have some left, another supporting unit is never a bad thing.
Terradons, rippers, chameleons or a salamander will be good. A salamander in particular because it can fry the enemies blocks pretty good. And in a pinch, it's cheap enough to redirect with!

Anyways, hope you have a good time on this forum!

    x2 Saurus Warriors x20

That looks a lot better! And yes, Saurus armed with spears also get a shield. But they don't get a parry save.
This is a good list to start from. Once you've played some games, you will know yourself what you want to add to your army.
    Good luck!

I'll try to squeeze in armor for the Scar Vet and one more question, spears v HW/S is there a clear cut better option? Model wise I like both but just not sure which one is more battlefield viable. Thanks for all the help!
