Solid list for a start and it does work very well with the box set.

My biggest concern is that Skink unit, it is lacking in a bit in direction because the priest is part of it. If it wasn't for the priest, I would say it's a great distraction unit. You can use it to help your other units get flank charges. To do this you set it up ahead of the other units but facing slightly diagonally so that if it receives a charge, your other unit will be able to flank charge next turn. However the priest is there and you don't want him getting caught up in the fight because he can be singled out and killed very easily.

If you don't mind fiddling around with things a bit, drop the Skinks and add in 5 more chameleons. This will flush that unit out a bit better (10 is more reliable than 5). It is also possible to throw in a BSB instead. There are lots of good standards to take for that block of Saurus.

Just a few thoughts. All in all that's a good 1000 point list using the battalion box as a start.

I agree, a very solid 1k list for a new comer, also Welcome to the board.

A few changes that Id make to Zenorens points though.

I would drop a few of the skinks and turn them to skirmishers, the priest can still join them as characters can gain the special rules of units he joins (within reason ie, cant make an oldblood scout with chameleon skinks XD) I regularly use 12 skink skirmishers and a priest in there. Play them like Fast Cavalry, run around and shoot but keep an eye on charge arcs of enemies.

I would do this because skinks should always run, be it fleeing a charge or running around the board poisoning enemies as they go!

Another alternative is to take the Cloak Of Feathers for 25 points (by dropping a few skinks maybe?) This give him fly, as long as you dont sit him in front of enemy units, a 20" march means you could sit behind his units and cast spells up his arse!

As for chameleon skinks, its not worth grouping them together in such big numbers, they can be taken out much easier, take 1 unit of 8 if you want a huge group, or (more advised) 2 units of 5, you get the benefits of 10 guys double tapping and the enemy has to cast 2 spells, or have 2 units shoot to take them out.

Remember your Chameleon skinks should be considered dead on the field, dont expect them to live, just make sure you can keep them alive long enough to destroy those artillery pieces!

1k is a great bracket for us lizzies, and oldblood is too good, but be careful running him into units on his own THEN setting up a flank with the cavalry, if he has to fight for a turn himself, static combat resolution will destroy him, yes he is stubborn which is a fantastic move btw, but theres always a chance. Also, I tend to find the cavalry really needs stubborn because they have a tendency to break as well.

They will do more damage and stick around longer if your OB is with them!

As for a BSB, in 1k, Cold blooded is awsome I find, and squeezing in a scar vet is tricky.

Good luck! You should do well!

I normally avoid skink skirmishers but that's a good suggestion.

You don't have to either/or here. Take the Cloak and put the priest in with the skirmishers. That way if things get bad, he can jet without worries.

With only 5, you start to lose your effectiveness very quickly. I would prefer 8 rather than 5 but because I like nice even numbers, I take 10 personally. If you take 8, make sure their frontage is only 4 to make them a smaller target.

thanks for the input i think I’m going to try:
dropping the horned one to a cold one
using the points to add the feathered cloak to the skink priest
switching the skinks with 12 skirmishers w/ javelins (i keep hearing how those are better than blowpipes)
