I'm new to lizards and after playing a 500 point game (in which i got ripped in half) i'm gonna try my hand at a 1250 list Skink Chief 340 -stegadon -stegadon war spear Skink priest 415 -Level 2 wizard -Engine of the gods -Rod of the storm 12x skink skirmishers 84 12x skink skirmishers 84 12x skink skirmishers 84 5x chameleon skinks 60 5x chameleon skinks 60 4x terradones 120 Total: 1247 PD:5+bound spell DD:4 Strategy will be to have the engine and the chief charge the front, the chameleons shoot from the rear, and the skinks go around and set upto use blowpipes on the flank.
Hmm it seems a bit of a one dimensional army, and 2 stegadons in less than 2k seems a bit overpowered. It will pretty much be a matter of get the stegadons in quickly, and if they perform and kill lots you will win, if not you will lose since skink skirmishers can't really stand up to any units. However, they could potentially keep moving around units and shooting much like DE dark riders can potentially do, which will just lead to a boring game if you keep circling and they keep trying to get LoS to charge you. It should be a powerful army unless you face something with several warmachines. Try it a bit and see if you actually enjoy playing it though. I would definitely consider dropping a steg and using the points to get more troops. But it is a different and still valid playstyle to take no ranked units if you don't want any.
Give me 2x Units of 12 Dryads x3 units of 10 Glade Guard and a alter kindred with HOD and Ill rip that army apart. Low leadership will defeat this army quite easily as will 2 warmachines. (Although having the EOTG ward save will negate their effects.) I would seriously consider dumping a bunch of those Skirmishers and take x3 Units of 15 Skinks with Jav Shields to give the Stegs some ranked support on foot. Drop the Chameleon skinks and take another unit of terradons (Those guys are absolutely fantastic) Other then that a solid start to what could be a decent list.
