Hi I am just getting started with warhammer i played 40k for a week and got bored of it then my friend convinced me to play fantasy and i like it I bought the lizardmen battalion and thats all i have for now and my friends play warriors of choas and brettonia. i have no problem with brettonia except for the trebuchet so i would like to know how to kill that thing cuz the skinks throwing javelins didnt do crap. my other friend the WoC player is alot tougher he has a mage lots of WoC and some choas knights how do beat them and what units should i buy down the road thx.
heeeey. against warriors take salamanders! they might only wound on 5+ on chaos warriors but youre taking down 16 point models. also taking the right list helps a great deal, so try and post one of your lists.
If I were you I'd buy a Slann and at least 2 salamanders. They are the best units against those armies...lol pretty much any army I guess. A lot of Lizardmen players love the lore of Life, and it's awesome, but I'm starting to really like Shadow. A great combo to use against any high armored infantry like chaos warriors is to cast the withering, followed by a couple of nicely placed Salamander shots. That could toast the unit! A strategy you need to learn quickly, is how to combo magic with our army. Shadow is great because there's a hex spell for every characteristic almost. A unit of Saurus wont be able to last that long in combat if you take a charge from Chaos Chosen, or Bretonian Grail knights. However, casting a spell that takes away their toughness and or Strength and everything changes. For the Trebuchet, just shoot it with lots of blow darts. Skinks have poisoned shots which automatically wound when you role a 6 to hit, as long as you dont need a 7 or worse to hit. Three wounds and its dead.
k thx for replies everybody definately going with salamanders. still on the wall with the slann. one more question by the way should i take javelins or blowpipes for my skinks and what r the rules for both those weopens. my friends and i all chipped in to buy the rulebook so its at my friends house
For the Trebuchet, take chameleons. You could also take terradons. They will do the trick as well. As for the blowpipe/javelin delima.... Myself, I alwayd take javelin and shield. On skirmishers, I play them too close to my opponent and do not get to stand and shoot (if I decide to hold against the charge). Javelins do not have a moving penalty, which helps me get hits and keeps them poisoned. If you march your skirmishers (with blowpipes) and fire at long range, double tapping (two shots), there is a good chance that you will lose your poison shots because you will need 7s to hit. Javelin and shield for me. I use chameleons for blowpipes.
Ah, the great jav v pea shooter debate... Peashooters generally mean you have to close to within 6" to take advantage of poisoned double shots. This makes you vulnerable to being charged and to being caught by chargers if you flee. I find my pea shooters are always at 6 to hit (i.e. 6 to wound with poison!). The key ability of peashooters is to get lots of poisoned shots against big monsters, especially high T poor AS monsters like giants. As javs only have the penalty for long range I normally have them further back shooting with 5 to hit 6 to poison. Despite being the squishiest troops in the whole game javelin shirmishers with a 6+AS and 6+ parry ward occasionally roll well and survive a round or two of combat. The bragging rights when they actually win a round of combat can last for months! In 7th edition I used to take 4-7 units with a slight majority of javs, in 8th I am down to about 2 normally peashooters. And lots and lots of salamanders...
thx i already had javelins and shields i was just wondering if i should go pipes cuz my skinks can only kill my friends dogs of choas but i guess thats expected against a good team like WoC
I agree with the chameleon skins for the trebuchet. As scouts, they can be place on the battlefield 12" away or farther from enemy unit after everything else is deployed. This makes them close right in on that treb with their poison darts. If you don't go with cham skinks, then I'd go with Terradons. Flyers have always been a thorn in the side to seige equipment and 8th edition isn't much different in that regard. As for the blowpipes/jav debate... Im holding out for poison-tipped arrows on small bows to make a comeback next book!! (I still have over 80 of them 5th edition ones!!). I like the longer range over blowpipes.
