    Hi guys,

Just joined and after finishing a 2500pt Ogre army I’ve left my girlfriend choose my next army and she’s chose Lizardmen because well Dinosaurs and that.

    So did a bit of shopping on Ebay and for the tidy price of £56 I’ve nabbed this lot;

14 of the skinks have blowpipes and are sprayed blue with army painter spray.
10 skinks have javelins and shields and include a champion with sword.

Another Skinks x 15 (think a mix of Javelins and Blowpipes)

    TOTAL SKINKS – 39

Saurus Warriors x 16 w/Hand Weapons and Shields

Saurus Warriors x 30 w/Full Command, Spears and Shields

Saurus Warriors x 16 w/Spears and Shields and Command

Saurus Warriors. x9 (not sure what weapons need to unwrap this box)

    TOTAL SAURUS – 71

Lizardmen Saurus Cavalry. x 7 (couple of broken arms/weapons but got some extra weapons on spures so sure I can sort some things out by replacing them.)

    Kroxigor x 3

Now where do I go from here. Obviously Core choices are rather limited for Lizardmen and I think I’ve got enough of them to keep me going. But it’s all the Hero/Lords and Special/Rare slots which I’m not sure about.

Love all the Dino models but not a clue what’s worthwhile and what’s not. Still learning the rules (need to book in a session at GW sometime soon) so it’s more of a painting modelling project until I’m comfortable playing the game.

    Cheers!

    Welcome to Lustria!

As for big dinos, I would start off with a Stegadon and build the Ancient with giant blowpipes variation for a Rare slot. Grab a Bastiladon and use the Solar Engine variation in your Special slot Those two are extremely safe choices to be in most, if not all, lists of your army. There are a lot more options, but I focused on the big dinos for you.

Heroes/Lords will take more thought. Honestly, you can't go wrong with 2 or 3 skink priests. Thgnew plastic model is fantastic. The Stegadon kit will give you an extra skink priest and skink chief, plus bits to convert your skink priests if having unique looking models is important to you.

If you are interested in skink chiefs, pick up some boxes of the terradon/ripperdactyls. Chiefs are so cheap, there is no reason not to give them a flying mount. They make great chaff killers/assassins/war machine hunters.

Most people like their Saurus heroes on Cold Ones. They're is a single model you can purchase, but it is more cost effective to buy a box of CoC and just convert a few. That being said, the heroes on foot (plastic Oldblood, Chakax, Gor Rok) are all great looking minis.

Lord choices are where you need to plan your army more. The Slann is the popular/competitive choice. If your girlfriend likes dinosaurs, then the Saurus on Carnosaur will be up her alley. Make sure to check out the tactica section as we have some guys that have been having competitive success with 1/2 Carnosaur lists. Plus, the model is awesome. You can also use the Skink Oracle as another skink priest if you put it on a base.

    Hope it helps!

Wow thanks for the in-depth response! Think I’ll order both the Stegadon (build Ancient) and Bastiladon this weekend and take it from there. Like the fact you get a Skink Preist and Chief in the box too so at least it gives me some starter heroes/lords for the time being.

To be fair putting all the current models from my eBay horde in my display cabinet it’s a bit overwhelming for a painting mission, especially with two 30-Saurus strong hordes!

Quite like the Ripperdactyls however the price means I’ll be waiting until Nov/Dec for these. Hopefully the I’ll get the rest all sorted by then.

I think, reading the rulebook, a Slann is definitely a go-to Lord for magic so that’ll be added to my shopping cart. And the Carnosaur was already on my radar. To be fair I think my girlfriend will just look at it and go oooh and then not really care anymore so this project is more for me and a second army :p

Will be sure to keep you updated on my progress, might even start a painting blog however I’ve got no decent photo equipment/white box. Would be a iPhone taking the pics.
