I am a retired 40k vet getting back in to wargames with WFB, and I'm going reptile.

I prefer plastics in all ways (assembling, painting, play) and, just looking at which parts of the army are in metal/plastic, I wonder: can you just field LM in plastics? It is difficult to know what you'd be missing without knowing how to play the army.

Well you're in luck, because Lizardmen can go all-plastic pretty well.

Stegadons come with a skink chief and priest, and you can make some pretty sick scar-vets/OBs out of jazzed up TG+CoC, so heros are good.

All the troops are plastic of course, really what is most missed without metal is the Slann, terradons, and salamanders. So I would suggest going saurus heavy, and bring at least one EOTG.

    Thanks Warden.

The Battalion looks like a good start. My only opponent is probably going with the Empire.

Yeah metals are pretty horrible.. One or two in the army shouldn't be too much of a problem, salamanders really are useful. You can get away with not using terradons by converting plastic skinks into charmeleons skinks to use as your hunters.

Yeah all plastic is possible. You do miss out on the two very popular lord choices in the slann or the carnosaur.

I can't identify the books... do LM have a 7th Edition Codex? It's not the one with the Slann on it, that is copyright 2003? When did the newest one come out?

Also, is there such a thing/configuration as a Slann Mage Priest on a Stegadon?

I am hunting for LM deals and someone is offering this as part of a lot.

That's Lord Mazmundi. He's a special character and kind of expensive but what do you expect? He's a friggen slann on top of a stegadon!

The new (7th edition) book is copyright 2008, it has a big saurus on the cover with many of the other units visible in the background.

    Thanks for the clarifications.

I've got my first regiments of Saurus and Skinks on the way, working up to a 500 point list. I'll be fighting the Empire by the end of the month.

I was at GW over the weekend and one of the dealers mentioned what Warden did about the plastic skink priest/chief in the ancient stegadon kit. Does anyone have any pictures of them used on foot and can you make one of each out of the kit? Would you just throw regular skinks on to the stegadon to make up the 5-man crew then?

You could make one of each from a single kit, and even magnetize their feet so you can take them on and off their bases and the howdah.

Oh man, they both look great. Thanks for the enlarged photos.

I was thinking of using a Scar-Vet and Priest to start my army, but if I can get both of those from one kit I'm going to go with a Priest & Chief.

If you have the Battalion, you'll have an extra Cold One Rider that you could easily convert into a Scar-Veteran as well.

I've been finding very good deals on everything but the battalion. Can you get an extra Scar-Vet out of the normal Saurus Cavalry box?

Yeah the amount of cold one stuff in the batallion is the same as a box of them. You will get 8, and only really need 6 for a unit so there are a couple you can convert into characters.

One small note about the steg characters, you can see their feet aren't flat on that base. They are both designed to be standing on stairs, that throne that can go on the back of the steg. If you put them flat, I suggest a slight bit of repositioning of the legs or put a stone or something under one of the feet.
