    Hello people of lustria online!

I am starting my new lizard men army next week/ couple of weeks. And found this website. Awesome to see all the creations already!

I already have a question actually; I have a box set of 24 lizard men skinks and have seen many different variations of them. What is the best way to kit them up? I was thinking to maybe do 50% with javelins and 50% with blowpipes, would that be good?

And finally; what are the so called skirmishers? I keep hearing about them but can't find the definition.

    Thanks in advance guys!

    Greetings,

Trunc (Short for Truncatis --> Jungle)

Welcome to the Jungle....Jungle! Glad you decided to join. I have only been playing for about 1 1/2 to 2 years and have found Lustria to be a great place for Lizardmen information of all kinds. Skirmishers are a type of unit that is described in the Basic Rule book (BRB) on page 77 in the Special Rules section. Lots of cool abilities for Skirmishers.

As far as the Skink assembly, I have both blowpipe and javelin/shield units. I am starting to prefer the javelin/shield units over the blowpipes. Better shooting due to Quick to Fire, and you can use the same models for a Skirmisher unit or a Cohort unit so a little more versatility in building your army to start. Search the forums and you will find discussions about the benefits and drawbacks of both types of weapons.

    Thanks Kblock!

I'll start looking into the rules and find out what is the best choice for me!

Greetings, Trunc (Vector is actually latin for Rider, haha)

    Welcome to the forums.

Both blowpipes and Javelins are good, but I prefer javelins. I usually take one or two units of Skink Skirmishers with Javelins. If I'm taking three units of Skirmishers, then I break out the blowpipe.

You generally want poisoned hits. If you collect enough penalties to hit, you hit on 7 or higher. If you hit on 7 or higher, you don't get poison. Blowpipes can only use their multiple shots and still on 6s or better in these scenarios.

    1) You didn't move and there is no cover for the enemy.
    2) You closed to short range (6 inches) and there is no cover for the enemy
    3) You are buffing your Skinks with Hand of Glory.

When you can do one of these three things, blowpipes are better than javelins, almost twice as better in killing power.

In other scenarios javelins are slightly better. The shields give them a better armor save versus light shooting. The parry save comes in handy if the Skinks get in combat. Javelins are quick-to-fire so there is no penalty for moving and shooting and you can always stand and shoot in your front arc.

Feel free to ask us any other questions you have, whether it's about rules, tactics, fluff, painting or whatever.

Thanks Scalenex!! I'll start doing some skinks with javelins and afterwards some with blowpipes. And in the meantime i'll read through the rule book to find out more about the game (I have never played it before).

Here is the beginning of my first lizard men, still have a lot to do of course, highlights and might do the scales on his back with some bone/baneblade brown to make it more realistic. The shield will be something with green. Feedback is welcome since this is my first lizard men figure ever!

(PS. the light of my aquarium is the best light for pictures so that is what you see in the background :p)
