Ok so I have not played Lizardmen in fantasy since the days when the warhammer boxset contained Lizardmen and Brettonia forces, so it has been a while since my lizzies have been off of my display shelf.

I have been a Empire and Skaven player between then and now and recently sold my Skaven as I have become very very bored with the army and play style and also exhausted with painting two ever growing horde armies.

A quick nosey through the army book and collection and I have come up with this army list for 1500 points, I have used horde formation but do not think that for Saurus warriors it is the best option.

    Slann Mage Priest - 370
    Focus of Mystery
    The Focused Rumination
    Battle Standard Bearer
    Banner of Discipline
    Seed of Rebirth

    Core - 564

24 Saurus Warriors with Musicain and Standard Bearer (my local gaming group has a few champion killing characters which add overkill bonus to the combat resolution so will not be having any champions to fall until I can come up with a plan to kill the champ killers)

24 Saurus Warriors with Musicain and Standard Bearer (same as above)#

    Special - 566

16 Temple Guard, Full Command (this is the exception to the above due to..... ) Sword of the Hornet, Banner of Eternal Flame

    10 Chameleon Skinks

    10 Chameleon Skinks

    Total 1500

So what do people think about the list, and what are your recommendations to add to the army, I already want some Salamanders (I'm sure I had three somewhere) with additional battlefield snacks as well as a second Slann and some Terradons and obviously more Saurus.

The slann has a 4+ ward. I think the 6+ regen from seed of rebirth is wasted as regen is used in place of a ward save.

yeah that was kind of thrown in there to make up the points, couldn't really see where I could add 10 points

Ironcurse Icon is always useful. 5pts and gives the character and his whole unit a 6+ ward vs warmachines. Remember your temple guard champ can have 25 points of magic items on him too if you need to somewhere to place it.

thats worth bearing in mind but he already has the ASF sword, i might have a shuffle around with magic items, apart from that can you see any major shortcomings in the list (apart from shooting phase)

I always take full command for anything except skinks. Up to you whether you feel it's worth it. Definitely add as many salamanders as you can. Those guys have never let me down.

I'd also be inclined to up your temple guard to 20. I run mine 6 wide by 4 ranks. And when I don't kill them all by my own miscasts they do quite well.

And I recommend some normal skirmishing skinks. If you drop your chamo skinks units down to 5 models each then for the points (+20 or so) you can get two groups of 10 skirmishers. More units for your opponent to focus on and ups your own shooting a fair bit.

A lack of salamanders is definitely the main problem I see with this list.

Reduce the size of the charmeleon skink units, 8 should be enough.
Could reduce a bit of equipment on the Slann, that is quite a powerful and expensive magic user for just a 1500 point game. Already seeds are going since ward and regen is not useful anymore.
Could potentially drop a saurus unit down to 20 for the same reason; that big in 1500 may not be needed.
Switch sword of hornet for golden sigil sword; pretty much same effect except cheaper. Though personally I'd remove the magic weapon altogether and just stick with halberd, especially if you use lore of light to boost I.

Yes indeed. That place is sadly mostly dead now and I don't have time to try to get it going strong again, but it still gets the odd poster around the place.
