Hello All, I've recently started the hobby / game of Warhammer, and while I am slowly catching onto all of the rules and such there are a few things I'm not sure about. I am currently building a squad of Saurus Warriors, but I am unsure of what parts I am able to use, and which actually mean something. For example, there are small pieces of armor on the sprues. I'm I allowed to add these to my Lizardmen without it costing me points? There are also these little skulls that I would like to use, but am unsure if they relate to some rule I wasn't able to find in the book. Any help would be greatly appreciated. CLM
It makes no difference how you build rank and file troops except wether you want spears or Hand weapons but your command (champion, musician and standard bearer) have to have the drums and the standard and an impressive weapon unless you convert them. Nothing means anything except the weapons, and ofc the standard bearer and the musician can only be used as standard bearers and musicians. all the other parts are extra and their purpose is to make your guys look cool especially the skulls . Hope this helps
lizardninja, Thanks! That helps a lot. I was really hoping I could use these extras to make them look cool. It's been making me nervous cause I didn't want to spend all the time building these guys only to find out that I put something wrong on them. I did opt to have a bearer, but all other lizards are standard with spears. Thanks again for your help. CLM
I would take a musician it helps if you fight a combat and you both get the same combat resolution (pg 52, 53 of the BrB) then you win unless they have one too and then nothing happens. Champions are useful if you have a character in the unit because it can accept challenges (pg 102, 103 of the BrB) instead of your character.
Any game I've ever played we've been flexible with models you use (I actually used 5 40x40 bases 9 bits of paper and a terradon to represent 15 terradons along side a hippogriff/stegadon in my last battle!) Life is too short and otherwise you'd end up spending a massive amount of money. Having said that it depends on your group. Personally I have my saurus models carved in half, half with spears half without both with command. This means I can generally represent what I'm playing simply because I like to be as close as I can. Personally I'd advise you to build them as you like, at the start of each game I generally say "oh, and these are actually..." or something similar.
