If you've read the title you know why I've made this thread. Basically I've been collecting bits and pieces of a lizardman army for about six months now, buying boxes here and there and yet even with all the boxes and some made up models around me I couldn't put brush to model or model to table and field my soliders without having a good army list. Because my main experience with Warhammer up until now has been 40k, this new game I am still trying to learn has a whole lot of things that I still need to think about when it comes to making an army. Where before with my old army I just try and throw as many Grey Knights as I could on the board, now I have to worry about anvil units and warmachine hunters and flankers and etc etc. There is alot more to keep in mind about roles and numbers and ranks of which I am having a hard time trying to balance while still trying to achieve an even 2000 point army list from which I can play and better learn the game, so thankfully I discovered this site and it has been a great place for me to learn and ask for help, which I am now.

tl;dr, help me create an effective 2000 points list! Bonus points if I don't need to buy any more units. As I am Australian the price for models is stupid (Seriously, the Trogladon kit was $100 alone!)

    What I currently own:
"Great Sliz'zix" Slann Mage-Priest (Can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/bluetablepainting/sets/72157633958092232/ )
    Saurus Oldblood/Scar-vet
    Saurus Oldblood/Scar-vet on Caurnosaur
    Skink Priest

    One Bastilodon with Solar Engine
One half assembled stegadon (Still deciding how to build him so the howdah is currently unassembled)
    24x skinks with blowpipes
60x Saurus with hand weapon shield
    20x Temple Guard
16x Cold one (Unassembled while I decide what weapon)

What I think I need to buy:
    Possibly Salamanders
Battle standard, I NEED one right?

    Hello and welcome.

Quite a broad and delicious collection you've got yourself there - don't think you'd need to buy more to be honest. Salamanders ARE nice, and a good investment, but not quite as necessary as they once were.

The BSB comes down to a 10% margin of whether your saurus flees or not outside of it's influence, and a 5% margin when near your slann (if ld 9). it isn't nessecary, but it is good, a stable choice tbh. But what most do is make the Slann the BSB, the big frog can do many good things, so you don't need a new model.

At 2000 i'd go with something along the lines of :

    Lord choices:

    Slann mage priest:
    - Soul of stone
    - Harmonic Convergence
    - Channeling staff
    - Obsidian Amulet

This will allow you a good magic phase, it will give you free reign of your chosen lore and a 2+ WS for your slann vs magic, and 5+ for your TG. With this setup you're bound to choose TG later.

    OR

    OB on carnosaur
    - Halberd
    - Armor of destiny
    - Dawnstone
    - Bloodroar
    - Swiftstride

This is an expensive, but durable setup for an OB with all of the tricks for his mount. There isn't enough leftovers for a greatweapon, hence the Halberd. The negative of this route is that it's putting 25% of your army in one spot.

    OR

    OB on Carnosaur
    - Great weapon
    - Charmed shield
    - Dawnstone
    - Bloodroar
    - Swiftstride

This is cheaper, but only by a bit, that bit will get you some more in the other end though. For an even cheaper build, scrape off the Dawnstone. On the Greatweapon AND shield - it's only useful because it's a charmed shield, which can really save you - we're after the 2+.

    Heroes:

    Scar vet on foot:
    - shield
    - Light Armor
    - BSB
    - CoC
    - Sword of striking (this can be left out)

This guy will be your BSB if you don't use a Slann and want one. He'll go in a block of Saurus and with the sword of striking he'll pummel stuff down quickly. The Crown of Command will make your saurus stubborn, so they'll always roll against 8, with a reroll. In practical therms, we've built him as a unit buffer. This only gives him a 3+ save though - for a better save, scrape off the sword, and get an enchanted shield. That will save you pts. You could also exchange the CoC for an egg for some fun in the first combat. This will even allow you both the sword, the shield and the egg - Could also keep 3+ and go for an ironcourse ingot for warmachine protection.

    OR/AND

    Scar vet on Cold one.
    - Great weapon
    - Armor of fortune
    - Luckstone

Unless you used your armor of destiny on one of my other suggestions, use it here instead of the Armor of fortune and scrape off the luckstone. This guy though will even without the AoD be able to take a big battering, and deal an even bigger one. The luckstone is cheap, and worth it if it can save one of his wounds.

    AND

Skink priest lvl 1 or 2 - Heavens or beast.
    Dispel scroll

Yes, the little guy is close to a must. Get him a scroll, and you can probably stay with a lvl 1 if you have the slann, otherwise go lvl 2.

    Core.

    30 x Saurus warrior w/ FC
10 x javelin or BP skinks
10 x javelin or BP skinks

This is the easy part, this should match your allowance perfectly.

    Special.

    Bastiladon w/ solar engine.

I advise you use this guy, he's great!

    OR

5 x Cold one Cavalry w/ musician and no spears.

Cheap and useful for grinding large units of low str infantry.

    OR

6-7x Cold one Cavalry w/ FC

These are meant as a bunker for your Scarvet on a cold one - i really think you should bring him, but he doesn't necessarily need a bunker, it's useful though.

    OR/(AND w/ slann)

    20 x TG w/ FC.

These guys are necessary with the Slann, maybe even without because you don't have enough saurus for 2 combat blocks - making me lean towards you having a Slann list with your current models.

    Rare:

    Ancient stegadon w/ sharpened horns.

This guy is good at taking out Monstrous Infantry, and other multiple hit points units if he gets the charge - and he's good at killing infantry in numbers as well. He's mostly a supporting unit, but if he gets off the charge in some MI, he could, and probably will break them unless it's a large unit. I advise assembling your Stegadon like this.

That's it - with some options.
Only the Core is necessary the rest is optional.
I haven't added pts cost as that is illegal, hope you can make it out and i didn't miscalculate on the Carno, it comes very close to the 500 pt allowance.

You'll need to make the list yourself from here (if i get to decide), and offcourse this is just some of the options you have!

    GL with the list-making! :D
