Hello all! I'm a brand new member to these forums so hello to all! I've been a Warhammer Fantasy player for about 2 and a half years, I played 40k a loooooong time ago (about 6th ed I think) but quit for a good few years and recently decided to pick up the hobby again. For these past 2 and a bit years I've been a Dwarf collector, but recently, after checking forums and playing some games instore, I've realised that my army is just built...wrong, almost to the point of never being rectified without pouring a lot of money on the army, and to be honest, if I'm going to spend a lot of money, I'd rather start something new as my Dwarf army has started to simply frustrate me to the point that I dread playing a game with anyone! Lizardmen were always my second choice, the lore fascinated me and the models always looked great on the tabletop, Dwarfs were my top choice because I've always loved that fantasy race (In movies, books and role playing games) but the army doesn't really seem to fit my play style. Which leads me to this forum and (hopefully) your much appreciated advice and guidance, as I don't want what befell my Dwarf army to befall my next project! As a starting player, my first idea was to go straight for the batalion box to start off and supliment that with a Stegadon, this seems to give me a good range of units that I can build on, aswell as a as a General (Skink Priest from the Stegadon box) Which I can then mix and mach with as I learn how to play. Does this seem like a viable way to begin? Advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you -Stupot-
HI Stupot! Welcome! It sounds like we're in the same boat. I'm new here and recently picking up Lizardmen after a break of some years, having played 40k before that. I've got the batallion and I enjoy using everything in it. Saurus are phenomenal infantry. I usually use hand weapon and shield for the parry save. Skink Skirmishers have been game winners for me. And believe it or not Cold One Cavalry has crushed whole units by themselves (most recently a unit of 25 HE sea guard). I use an EOTG and Priest for my hero and an Oldblood mixed in with the Saurus for my lord. I love both of them, though the Steg can be something of a magnet. It's great to chew through elves with impact hits I haven't used the Temple Guard from the battalion yet. So to answer your question, I think it's a great place to start. The Oldblood can be tricked out with magic items depending on your enemy. So far, he only goes down consistently to Queek Headtaker of Skaven. Hope I've been of some help! -the Shining One
It really depends on your playstyle. You mentioned Dwarves doesn't seem to be your playstyle. If you are looking for stompy Stegadons and magic mayhem, then Lizardmen will be your playstyle. This is a great start, and is exactly how I got started too. Currently the only thing I really use from that box are the Saurus, but I can't think of a better way to get started.
