Hi Ive been playing Lizardmen for a while but I'm new to this forum. I'm planing on going up against Orcs soon Any advice?
Weclome to the board, thousandthson! Generally a thread this broad won't get too much attention, and you are better off having a bit of a look and search through the board and in particular the tactics section to see what else is already around. Also give us a bit more information. Do you have an army list already planned? Do you know basically what will be in the orc army? That will allow people to give you a more specific and detailed response.
I don't really have an army list prepared but I'm going to get one down soon The battle probably isn't going to be soon though but it is going to be in the foreseeable future. But for now i could use some advice on what to give my slan and hero(es).
The O&G army is so variable it is hard to comment (as everyone else has said) until we know more. What troops do you already have, what do you know your opponent like to bring? Most O&G armies have some big blocks so salamanders can potentially fry a lot of these blocks to thin them out before they get to you this may even cause some to panic as sallies only require a single unsaved wound to force a panic test. O&G are also extremely random and self destructive, so if you can stay away from him long enough his army may kill itself without you. You might want to consider taking quite a few units of skinks to shoot down fanatics, squigs and giants. Terradons and chameleon skinks can also be useful to either force out fanatics early, attack any lone characters or artillery etc. and help your standard skinks reduce the smaller anciliary units. You will probably still need some solid troops around to stand up to his combat troops. It is possible for an O&G general to pick an army that can be entirely out of his control for most of the battle due to "animosity", frenzy or compulsory/random movement.
Hes (my opponent) is liable to have: A giant A unit of black orcs Two units of boys bolt thrower Two orc shamans savage orc boys savage orc boar boys goblin spider riders (x10) And a unit of night goblins Grimgor Ironhide I've got: 40 Saurus warriors 16 or so temple guard 1 slann made priest 1 ancient stegadon 40 or so skinks 3 terradon riders Saurus hero Saurus lord on Carnisaur. For the orcs its likely to be different. but for my troops that all i have to pool from.
i would send the carnosur on the giant...the fact that he has no fanatics(omg! :O) makes your work a lot easier...take his warmachine out with the terradons...for the lore of the slann i would choose: 1/ death(if you want to take out his hero fast) 2/life(to help your troops be hard to kill) 3/fire( to kill his goblins and boyz easily) it would be good if you had some chameleon skinks... all in all you stand many chances if you play carefully!
just played a 3k against O&G saturday. my thoughts on the match: 40+ savage orcs 40+ black orcs 40+ night gobbos (2 fanatics) 40+ night gobbos (2 fanatics) 9 goblin bolt throwers 4 mangler squigs lvl 4 savage shaman, bsb, warboss in the savage orcs warboss in the black orcs 30 TG 40 Saurus 10 Skink skirmishers (javs) 10 Skink skirmishers (javs) 10 Skink skirmishers (javs) 2 Sallies 2 Sallies 2 Sallies (extra handler) Life slann (bsb, dispel, rumination, focus) in TG unit Fire slann (cupped, ironcurse, rumination, focus) in Saurus unit Skink priest lvl1 EotG, cube 4 Terradons all in all it was a good game. my terradons took out 3 of the 9 bolt throwers (other 6 were in the opposite corner). skinks harrassed 1 block of gobbos and killed the fanatics when their launch fell short. engine did a lot of 5+ ward and failed its burning alignment against 2 mangler squigs. TG unit sat back and took ALOT of punishment (i.e. got hit my 4 mangler squigs and a fanatic). ended the game with 3 TG left after a couple regrowth/bolt thrower trade offs. got dwellers off 1 time against the savage orcs, bagged his general warboss and roughly half the unit. they charged the saurus next turn, chewed through a bunch, saurus held and then made them run next turn. saurus caught the savage orcs then got bullied by the black orcs but managed to get away and rally. which brings me to my highlight of the match: i turned loose the 6 sallies on the black orc unit and flamed it down to about 10 orcs. sallies = must take against orcs IMO, poor LD for gobbos and only average for orcs means your going to be causing a fair amount of panic checks. you wont have the points to run the carni and slann, id take the slann every time.
I agree that slann is better than just having a lord and a skink for casting (then again lord and skink maybe good for some matches). I would probably choose death as I want Grimgor off the board as fast as possible. Grimgor alone killed my temple guard and slann without his black orcs with him. I probably will go with lore of life as the next time my temple guard and his unit had a fight I could resurrect my dead troops until I could get reinforcements and It also helped me boost the toughness of many of my troops survive combat with skin to stone which was vastly improved by throne of vines and i was able to rut his troops eventually. As with amnosity his black orcs are immune and he seems strangely lucky when it comes to amnosity rolls.
