in times past of playing lizardmen I tended to use cold one cav. unfortunately because I am redoing the paint job for the whole army and stripping paint from plastic cold ones has been a pain I have been tempted to just leave the cav out all together. I am not sure exactly how necessary having cav in 8th is so was just curious what peoples opinions on it was. I'd only have 6 of them in total I bought the old part plastic part pewter kit.
Many people on here aren't big fans myself included. they are expensive points wise and a bit of a sink in 2k or less. But they are useful, ideally taking on either enemy skirmishers or flank charging. they are better than you average saurus with WS4, Str5 on the charge and have a 2+ armour save. I'd take them but only in maybe 2k or bigger. i'd also consider using what you have as 5 CO riders and use/convert one into an oldblood/scar vet. Yours Aye Mixer
The trouble with Cold One Cav is they are expensive and rely on magic to really shine. Having a decent Initiative is important for cav in 8th and is why the likes of Blood Khights, Chaos Knights and Elven Knights work, so Cold One Cav end up being too expensive for how they perform. Since the magic that makes them good does the same to infantry so you're better off with infantry since you get more of them which makes them more survivable and any army with a Slann you want to keep sort of compact to make the most of Ld9 (or 10 with Standard of Discipline) and most likely BSB ability (even more so with a Light Slann and the great AOE spells).
