Well I thought that I could perhaps use some insight into an army I've made. I want to get fresh ideas from you all to see if perhaps there are better ideas out there. To summarize the purpose behind the list I'll say that I'm playing in a campaign similar to Mighty Empires where we challenge but we don't use the events phase. So I can pretty much be challenged by anyone (I'm currently top dog) My opponents; H. Elves - Magic heavy but takes a CC lord. Big blocks of Spears and Phoenix Guard minimal shooting. Orks - LOTS of infantry. Decent amount of war machines and lightly offensive magic (lvl 3). Skaven - LOTS of giant rats to the exclusion of all else, strong magic and 2, yes TWO abominations D. Elves - Hydra, big blocks of spears, big block of Witches, strong magic and strong shooting. My List Old Blood- General Carnosaur Armour of Destiny Dawnstone Venom of the Firefly Frog Additional Hand Weapon Scar Vet BSB Hide of the Cold Ones Shield Skink Priest Level 2 Diadem of Power Saurus Warriors x 20 Hand weapon/shield Full Command Saurus Warriors x 20 Spear/shield Musician, Standard Saurus Warriors x 20 Hand weapon/shield Musician, Standard Cold One Cavalry x 9 Full Command Razor Standard Chameleon Skinks x 6 Ancient Stegadon x 2 So basically lots of Saurus and very few skinks. I don't think you can really play an army without Cameleons and be able to deal with War Machines. And there is only one army which takes more than two (the Orks and Goblins) and most only take a single war machine. I took the large unit of Cold Ones because I can either put my General with them if I don't have many war machines to worry about or they are still a large force to be reckoned with. I think this army has a lot of staying power as well as a fair number of units that will really be able to smash units aside especially with combined charges! That's the basic premise. Let me know what you guys think!
Looks very solid, to be honest. Changes I would suggest is dropping one of the Stegadon Ancients for a couple Salamanders and a unit of Terradons. I have found that Terradons are fantastic still, and there always seems to be at least one use for them. Other than that, looks very good.
I agree with you whole heartedly about the Terradons! I think they are still worthwhile with just a basic unit of three. Their drop rocks is still formidable against light and small infantry or shooting units and they are still quite effective against war machines even if they don't get the stomp.
Seriously, you don't know how refreshing it is to see an army list with no Slann! Love the Carnosaur model, shame it isn't used more than it is.
you forgot to mention no salamanders, that's very refreshing as well. looking forward to some battle reports.
Its only an extra strength 4 hit, but suddenly they become a little more viable... Pity they are still T3 with 6+ save though.
I generally prefer Razordons over Salamanders. Not that I have anything against Salamanders but for my purposes if I play that unit type I just like Razordons. I'll post a battle report if I do indeed get a battle in with this army. I like to change up my lists to keep my oppoents on their toes. Just too bad I don't have enough points to play an OB on Carnosaur and an OB on Cold One!
I love the idea of a carnosaur running next to 2 Ancient stegs ( I know that it is very unlikely but in my head I see a combined charge of thoose three models leaving whatever got in the way as a bloody smear on the ground). When it comes to changes, I prefer only 2 blocks of hard infantry assuming that i am the one advancing. Based on that I would make 2 blocks of 25 instead and spend the extra points on terradons. I will not suggest salamanders or skink screens since that would totally go against the (imo) fantastic style of this army. However I would definitly drop the razor standard since i dont think it would come to good use against thoose armies. Maybe I would combine those points with the 120 saved from saurus and scim some points of by skipping spears so that I could have a second unit of CoC. This might not be combat effective but it would look great. Good luck in the tournament. Would love to here of good results from an army like this.
He can't even have them as in the rulebook it says they're for models on foot only. I would suggest getting a halberd instead, the extra streinght makes it a bit killier, besides he dosen't have a shield so nothing lost. The final result would be 4(5 with frenzy) S7 attacks and 4 S6 attacks.
Don't forget that those S7 attacks do D3 wounds! Man this list makes me want to pull out an Old Blood army, it just sounds really fun, and the way they look is just beautiful
That they do. May i suggest this guy: Oldblood Armour of Destiny Dawnstone Carnosaur Pendant Halberd Carnosaur For 10 points more than you'r current build you get 1+ rerollable with a 4+ ward and he has the same kind of uberfrenzy that the carnosaur does.
If I remember correctly, you do not need to have the carnosaur pendant. The rider gains frenzy when the mount does.
He only gains the berserker rage but no extra attack. Oddly enough its stuck in the rules for cavalary (page 82) but the ridden monster rules do make a direct refference to it.
