Hi everybody! This is my first ever post on this forum. I am new to lizardmen and I thought of this oldblood build that might be kinda cool.
    Oldblood
    Burning Blade of Chotec
    Maiming Shield
    Glyph Necklace
    Carnosaur Pendant
    Carnosaur

    455pts

It is a little expensive, but I think it would work well.
    Construtive criticism please!

One thing to beware of when using the Burning Blade is that there's two new magic items in the 8th edition rulebook that offer a 2+ ward save against flaming attacks. They only cost 5 to 10 points apiece, so expect to see them frequently.

For the same cost, I'd consider the Sword of Might for +1 strength, which will still help negate armor a little.

Also, the carnosaur Pendant grants Frenzy, now, not having read the new rules I'm not sure, but does the Carno's Frenzy transfer to the Oldblood anyway as it used to?

Also, no more expensive than a fairle tooled up slann ;)

I think the frenzy still transfers to the rider. So, the canosaur pendant is a waste of points.

Only the carno gains extra attack due frenzy

Yeah, they made it pretty clear now that special rules that apply to the monster don't affect the rider. No more free frenzy for Oldblood... :shamefullyembarrased:

Given the composition restrictions now in place on Lords, and the need for a Slann to counter enemy magic/dish out magical destruction, I don't think a Carnosaur build is viable anymore.

This is what I plan to field to join to Temple Guard:

Old Blood w/Blade of Realities, Jaguar Charm, shield, light armour

The Blade of Realities is still awesome and despite the expense, it outshines the new generic magic blades available in the main rulebook, and even the otherwise excellent magic weapons in the Lizardmen book. Jaguar Charm means he can shoot off at will to intercept monsters and heroes. He's an investment but there is literally no defense (aside from really good Leadership) to his sword, and he's fast enough to catch people off-guard.

I can't find where I saw it, but I saw someone post this setup:

    Old Blood
Fencers Blades, Aura of Quetzl, Glittering Scales(how suiting!)

so all enemies will hit him on 6's and, with a toughness boost, wound on 6's it was suggested to be used on a carnosaur rider but the counter argument was that enemies would just kill the carno to break the Oldblood.

I like the idea of using him to support my combat blocks on foot, with a Beast Lore Slann and a gaggle of chep but effectively set up scar vets. All within 12" of the slann. Throwing the Pelt and Savage Beast on their higher levels gives +3 strength, Attacks, and Toughness makes this Old Blood Strength 8, Attacks 9, Toughness 8 (so 6's to wound unless your Strength 7) and Weaponskill 10!

Hey... not a bad idea there with the -2 to hit him.

Only potential problem with the Blade of Realities is that the BSB lets you re-roll all leadership tests now. Until they FAQ it (if they do at all), a lot of people are going to claim they can re-roll Blade of Reality tests, too.

I suspect they will, because thats pretty stupid RAW. How does having an inspiring Banner near you help prevent your soul getting cut in two?

Regardless, it's still the nastiest sword in our arsenal, not many other armies have comparable abilities on a mundane hero. And even if it fails the first time, he's going to hit more than once, so most likely they'll fail at some point and poof! no more enemy hero/monster.

Bah, I didn't think about that... The LM FAQ is out and mentions nothing of the BoR, so yeah people can reroll it. That makes it a LOT weaker and almost not worth taking now. Oh well, it was probably a bit overpowered as it was so I guess we had it coming.

Unless they're Skaven, then they just hide in the unit and the banner still works.

I know mine will be: Heavy Armor/4+ Ward, Shield, Bane Head and Piranha Blade.

That's assuming I'm not taking a slann (which I mostly will be).

I think I'm going to try an Oldblood on foot, and try to capitalize on the HW&S parry save stacking with one of the 4+ ward items. If I have the points, he'll get the firefly venom for wounding ghostly enemies.

The build I'm interested in at the moment is:

    1x Saurus Oldblood
    - Golden Sigil Sword
    - Armour of Destiny
    - Enchanted Shield
    - Potion of Strength

1+ AS, 4+ Ward, I10, 8 Strength for a turn. Not sure what unit to add him too (maybe Saurus block) or to equip with a mount.

Mines taking cold one, blade of realities and mask of EEE!. Also it's worth noting that the enchanted shield costs 1 less point than an oldblood's normal shield if you can spare 5 pts of you magic which i can't so i pay extra for armour and shield.
The idea is he rides with a cold one unit moving ahead of chakax and my assault core as my skink priest and skirmishers rain magic/poison death on everyone
