Hi just wandering if any of you out there have any good oldblood builds. At the mometn I am using the below one which can be potentially devastating as you'll see.

    Fast anvil Oldblood
Great weapon, hide of the cold ones, Charm of the Jaguar warrior, Carnosaur pendant.

This guy is cheap and cheerful and when used correctly can destroy units of fast cavalry and skirmishers as well as lone characters with his six strength 7 attacks. Also he's not afraid of striking last as with a toughness of 6 and a 2+ AS he can stand up to almost anything that comes his way.
I generally use the charm of the jaguar warrior at the end of the magic phase when both my power dice have run out and hopefully my opponents dispel dice, al but guaranteeing me to get this off :D .

Ideas on other good builds are welcome as is critisism of my own.

I've been playing the fairly boring Armour of Destiny and Obsidian Blade combo recently.

It's expensive but you've got heavy armour (you can throw on a shield for good measure), a 4+ ward and ignore all armour saves.

Old-Blood I tend to use (which is only when I want to use a Carnosaur tbh, otherwise I take a Scar_Vet or two)

Armour of Destiny, Dawnstone, Other Tricksters Shard and Great Weapon. With a mount you get a 1+ re-rollable armour save, 4+ ward save. 5 S7 attacks (so -4 to enemies Armour save) and enemies have to re-roll successful Ward saves. Quite a beast.

Glittering Scales, Aura of Quetzl, Fencer's Blades on a Cold One. Enemies will need 6's to hit this guy in close combat, and you have a 1+ Armour save and 6 S6 attacks. Tho I much prefer the build above as this one offers little protection from war machines and the like...

Unfortunately the Charm of the Jag Warrior and Carnosaur pendant are both enchanted items, so you can't take them together.

I think the Charm has lost some of its usefulness with the change to Steed of Shadows in 8th. Now the spell specifically says that the Fly move is done as if it were in the Remaining Moves sub-phase. So you can't make a flying charge anymore. Still useful in some builds, but much more limited.

It's worth mentioning that you do not gain the extra attack from Fencer's Blades as only models on foot gain the extra attack. Bottom of pg 91 BRB.

    I am going to try:
    Carno
    Glittering Scales
    Talisman of Preservation
    Potion of Speed
    Sheild
    Burning Blade of Chotec

Not an oldblood build but could be changed to fit.

    Scarvet-
Purpose: Monster control/wizard sniper. (HPA anyone?)

    Scarvet
    Cold One
    Light Armor
    Charm Shield
    Burning Blade
    Potion of Speed
    Opal Amulet

He's cheap too! Which he needs to be cause he WILL die. All his items are about surviving one round of combat only. Burning blade isn't optimized, however, I feel in this edition you need something with fire to deal with regen which has become "uncommon" (instead of rare).

Here's a few builds I came up with:

    The Budget Oldblood:
    Light Armor
    Great Weapon
    Cold One
This guy is pretty cheap (for an oldblood) at 200 points, but surprisingly good (5 str 7 attacks and a 2+ armor save). I like this guy because in high point games you can take him and a tooled out Slann (who can make him even better)

    The Anvil Oldblood:
    Hide of The Cold Ones
    Glyph Necklace
    Potion of Toughness
    Shield
If you need to blunt an enemy attack, this is the best Oldbood to do it. he has a 1+ save, a 6+ Parry save, and 6 toughness (that can be raised to 9 for a turn), and all enemies are at -1 to hit him. This guy is great for blunting a cavalry charge, and without the strength from laces, he could probably win the rest of the combat (with backup)

    The Hoard Breaker:
    Sword of Bloodshed
    Maiming Shield
    Light Armor
    Potion of Foolhardiness
This build is designed entirely around maximum attack output. And boy, does he put out! On the charge he has 10 attacks, with the potion. If you have a Slann with Lore of Beasts cast Savage Beast of Horros on him, he has 13 strength 8 attacks!

These are all radically one-sided Oldblood's but all three are very good at what they do.

    Mine:
    Fellblade
    Glittering scales
    Horned one/ carno

I love the fact that people agree with the horned one being a normal mount now.

Sorry I mean Blade of Realities. I use this build to hunt down low LD characters such as some skaven ones or low LD monsters like that stupid hellpit.
Advantage of carno is that it means even if the blade fails the carno can usually finish off the hellpit.

Why is the horned one such a popular choice now? I know it doesn't take up our magic items allotment anymore and it's just a small upgarde in terms of points cost in comparison to the cold one, but I don't see the appeal. The lack of stupidity would be great, except if you run him with cold one cav it makes no difference. While if you run him with anything else then he doesn't benefit from the look out sir rule.

I agree with Nightbringer. WHY IS THE HORNED ONE SO POPULAR! It doesn't do much, costs 35 points and the not benefitting from stupidity would be a great bonus, if you decided not to join a CoC unit. If you don't join a CoC unit on the other hand you don't benefit from a look out sir roll. So what is the point???

Anyway, came up with neww build which I hope will be looked on favourbaly.
    Troll hunter:
Carnosaur pendant, Blade of realities, light armour, shield.

With the amount of trolls and similar creatures popping up at the moment I thought it would be a good idea to combat this in some way. Enter Oldblood with blade of realities. This guy pumps out 6 strength 5 attacks a turn and with trolls low leadership can quite feasibly kill 4 a turn. Also with a 2+ AS he can take whatever comes back.

It gets you that extra bit movement for the long charges, you still get a 4+ Look out sir if you're near the CoC unit or better yet you bunker up in it and then charge out of it for a regular 2+, and makes for cool conversions.

True... BUT... how many people still take CoC? I think they have fallen out of favor with the 8th edition rules and can't really compete with the other choices that we have available to us.

I have a cheap and cheerful oldblood build which can be plonked in a unit of Saurus (temple guard or standard) and be used to bolster the line. He is also a reasonable assassin with 6 attacks with ASF.
If you get this oldblood then you can stilla fford a slann,

    Cheap and cheerful
Sword of hornet, Maiming shield and light armour

    Plz comment
