    Hi All,

I've seen quite a few theories on what will and won't be good in 8th, so I thought it'd be good to form a thread to accumulate what everyones either tried of thought up. Hopefully, this could be a handy resource for starting players and experienced ones alike, helping us to think outside the box and collaborate towards the downfall of all the lesser races!

I might try and update this starting thread with peoples ideas to keep a running tally of what we come up with.

A few to get us started, taking from the example of The Herdstone, and to avoid GW copyright. All points values will be given in Cohort Skinks, so for example, if a unit cost the same as 10 Cohort Skinks,it will be recorded here as - 10CS (I don't think this value representation is against site protocol, but if it is please let me know via PM and I shall remove it):

    SPECIAL UNITS
    - 6 Krox (3x2) - 66CS:
    1 Rank (so can break ranks), 18 S6 attacks, 3 S4 Stomp attacks, ASL, 4+ AS, T4

    - 4 Krox (2x2) - 44CS:
Less hitty, less points. 12 S6 attacks, 2 S4 Stomp attacks, ASL, 4+ AS, T4

    - 10 Temple Guard (5x2) - 32CS:
1 Rank (so can break ranks), 15 S5 attacks, WS4, 4+ AS, T4, command options.

    - 18 Temple Guard with Standard, Musician (6x3) - 62CS:
2 Ranks (so can break ranks) + standard and Musician, 18 S5 attacks, WS4, 4+ AS, T4, command/ banner options.

best combo would be 6+kroxigors with lore of life which give T. it basicaly makes a killing machine of kroxigors. its hard to kill them but they kill back quite strong :)

Always striking last even when they charge is going to hurt these guys. I hit a 10 man Hand weapon & shield Chaos Warrior unit head on with 3x2 Krox, and my whole back rank got wiped out before they could attack. Lesson learned- against something hard like WoC, the Kroxigors still need to be a flanking unit, or have magical support.

I'm liking TempleGuard over Krox so far this edition (though I've always loved TG so I'm a little biased lol!),

To take the 2 above examples:

    - 6 Krox (3x2) - 66CS:
    1 Rank (so can break ranks), 18 S6 attacks, 3 S4 Stomp attacks, ASL, 4+ AS, T4

    VS

    - 18 Temple Guard with Standard, Musician (6x3) - 62CS:
2 Ranks (so can break ranks) + standard and Musician, 18 S5 attacks, WS4, 4+ AS, T4, command/ banner options.

Note, Quantity of wounds, attacks (except the stomps), save and Toughness are on par, both can break ranks though if the Krox lost 3 wounds or the TG lost 8 wounds that would be negated. Combat effectiveness (ie loss of attacks unable to be replaced with step up) begins when Krox take 3 wounds or TG take 7.

    Krox advantages:

+1Strength, +3 S4 stomp attacks, Fear, slightly smaller frontage, +2 Movement

    TG Advantages:

+1 rank, standard and musician, slightly cheaper or can take banner, WS4 (helps with defense and offence), I2 (so would strike before ASL, etc.), Shield (+1 save VS shooting), slann bonuses

    forgot the atacks number,
    kroxigors do 18 S6 hits
    TG only 15 S5 hits
    this makes kroxigors killy.
but i tell you this everything needs lore of life becouse other way around it sucks, so TG unit gets nerfed becouse slann is going to be sitting there.

Actually, the point of 18 TG is to rank 6x3 so 18 attacks, same as 3x2 Krox. I was meaning this as a comparison of combat units on their own merits, so the slann was not factored in.

If however they have a slann you save the points cost of 4 TG and loose 2 S5 attacks to gain stubborn LD9 and likely a BSB, not to mention if the slann can conjure up some tasty weapon for himself and I presume he'll benefit from any buff put on the unit whilst he's in there (not sure if this changed in 8th) So character sniping a T8 slann with wardsave?

Also, Its entirely possible to fit 2 units of TG into a 2000pt list (I'm planning a fairly themed list) so you could have a bodyguard unit and a heavy hitter!
