    Working at it.

Also, if you guys have not heard, we're putting out a new medieval range.

I'm sure @Killer Angel will join me in showing enthusiasm for this upcoming project by Archon, makers of the Rampart terrain series:

Most interested to see what the scale of the models and game will be (28mm? 32mm? 35mm? 40K-level battles or Kill Team-like skirmishes?), what the Zerg and Protoss units look like in more detail, and if StarCraft 1 units will be taken into account alongside their StarCraft 2 counterparts!

Archon produced an 'Ask Us Anything' livestream yesterday for the StarCraft Miniatures Game (The main event starts at around 33:10):

    Key things to take away:
    • 32mm true-scale, so will no doubt scale pretty well with newer-generation 40K models, though there might be a significant size difference with earlier ones (most notably the new Terrans being 1:1 scale with Primaris Marines, making them of course significantly bigger than Firstborn Space Marines when, in reality, they'd probably be the size of the latter)
    • In terms of battle scale, it aims to be a Combat Patrol/Spearhead sort of game to start with, so 3-4 units of 5-10 figures usually, but with the option to go bigger - so a true battle game rather than a skirmish game
    • Movement will be through measurement rather than hexes, so a proper wargame rather than a neo-board game like Warhammer Underworlds or Archon's own Masters of the Universe game
    • Most of the factions' starting models will be from StarCraft II (expected as, being a newer game, it'll be easier to get digital models from Blizzard as a reference), though additional units from StarCraft 1 that didn't make it into II, along with units unique to sub-factions and only mentioned in books tied to the games, are certainly not ruled out
    • Initiative and card-based activation system that give out less actions to players with greater initiative to balance out the advantage of acting first
    • Dice with custom symbols (rather like Armoured Clash and Dystopian Wars) rather than D6s and D10s
    • No tokens except for plastic markers symbolising abilities such as Zerg Creep and burrowed units
    • Looks like the models will be in multipart (albeit push-fit) hard plastic kits in sprue form, with bits on them for kitbashing and customisation - just what we wargamers want :D
    • Rules and models for sub-factions such as Tal'darim, Infested Terrans, perhaps even Confederates, will be in the pipeline once the main 3 factions are out
    • Models up to StarCraft II Ultralisk size will be included... which will be especially interesting given that the StarCraft II Ultralisks are a good way bigger than their counterparts from StarCraft 1
    • Aimed to be released properly to retail in early 2026, though pre-orders will begin at the end of this year
    • There will also be another StarCraft board game coming out, slated for 2027, using smaller-scale ready-made models (and @Killer Angel it'll be interesting to see how different it is from the board game you have... which they're also considering re-releasing funnily enough)
    • Heroes seem to be reasonably strong, probably on the level they are in the PC game (potent but easily overwhelmed by a lot of enemy units attacking them at once), and won't be required for your force (so no Hero-centric nonsense like the Middle Earth SBG).
    • StarCraft-style population mechanics based on Supply/Control/Psi values for all units designed to regulate battle sizes alongside a points system for building your force
    • By the sound of it the game will be fast-paced, taking around 2 hours for standard size battles
    • No deployment - models move on to the battlefield from the board edge from Turn 1... and it looks like you can hold back units to arrive in later turns as well, so each side moves onto the battlefield in waves
    • At launch there will be 2 starter boxes - a 2-player box with Terrans and Zerg and a separate box with Protoss - with around 4 squads per side, and all the models in the starter box will be available separately alongside additional units not seen within them
    • Changes will be made to points etc to keep the game balanced as it progresses
All in all, looks like it's in safe hands... especially as the company had even taken its name from StarCraft :D

no doubt about that, if they really are going to the route "small patrols"

it's not a bad idea... short games are imo the way to go, the same thing has been adopted by trench crusade.
Mostly because it puts you in a different niche than warhammer, and it's also less "scary" if you have the prospect to only buy a handful of miniatures to play satisfying games

Trench Crusade is a skirmish game though as far as I know, quite a different beast. If anything, that one is closer to the Middle-Earth SBG, Necromunda, Kill Team and Mordheim. The StarCraft game on the other hand still appears to be 40K/AoS sort of scale, just on the smaller end of it much of the time (though with the chance to go bigger).

Ah yes, i wasn't talking about mechanics, i was pointing at the approach in using a limited number of miniatures.
