Hello, I am new to lizardmen and am currently building my scaly horde. Right now I am finishing my stegadon and was wondering if it would be better to leave the howdah separated from the stegadon, paint it and the stegadon separately, and then attach the howdah? Or to attach the howdah and then paint it all at once?

    1) paint stegadon
    2) paint howdah and THEN glue it on
    3) paint skinks and THEN glue them on

Don't glue the howdah at all... It clips into place and holds very well without any glue. That will make it much easier for transporting if/when you need to.

Paint the skinks before gluing them in though.

Or make skinks removable (so you can better track the "wounds" inflected to crew). Some pinning might do the trick (I found magnets way to problematic for this purpose, but maybe I was just too clumsy :) ).

I've magnetized the skinks on my first steg, but I agree it was a pain in the arse. I'm happy with the result, but I think the next lot will be glued.

If you use hand drill (such as the one GW sells) and are careful enough its fine. I actually had no problem with fragility of legs. Problem was with my bad estamation of length (so I drilled whole lenght of the leg - but that was easily corrected with some greenstuff).
I might post some pics of my stegie (and pinned skinks) in my paintlog if you want to see (but not sooner than tomorrow, I am too tired to take pictures ;) ).

Looking forward to see your work ;)

I magnatized the EoG and Blow Pipe parts of mine, that way I can pop off the EoG and stick on my Chief with WarSpear. :)

Wish I would have pinned Skinks but to late now, will pin as they fall off.

Any chance we can see a photo or two? I am thinking about using some of the crew from the plastic Steg with my old metal one. Are there enough skinks in the plastic box for this? Probably want to use 2, just to replace the metal ones that are armed with shortbows.

It comes with 5 normal crew, one chief and one priest, loads of arms and stuff though amongst them 2 arms to make skink standardbearers
