I have a friend who plays high elves and absolutely loves Phoenix guard. He's playing a nineteen man unt of Phoenix Guard + Caradyan in a 750 pt battle as well as sea guard and bolt thrower with only 750 pts to spend choices very limited but decided on a shooty force to run rings around him as shown below. 1 Skink priest level2 with cloak of feathers plaque of Tepok 2 units of 12 skink skirmishers 12 Saurus 1 razordon 5 Chameleons Basically tactic is to use Saurus as a close combat unit for last resorts and to finish of remains of phoenix Guard in CC. Chameleons deploy in front of bolt thrower and try to take it out of equation Skink skirmishers used to draw Phoenix Guard out of line and to shoot them up. Razordon will plant itself in way of phoenix guard to provide a bit of a dilema to my opponent and the Skink priest will fly around killing of Lothern sea guard as phoenix guard w/ caradryan are all but impossible to kill with magic.
His Pheonix guard will be more than half of his army (with the rest pretty much being core). Block the Pheonix guards movement with redirectors, swap the razor for a salamander, and toast the rest of his army.
I agree, Salamanders are golden against high elves. Definitely go for the Salamander instead of the Razordon.
I know that salamanders are probs better than razordons but I can't help but love The razordon model and rules. If I was to include the salamander the main reason would be to see the look on his face as he is forced to take handful after handful of his precious phoenix guard away.
I love the Razordon models as well, they look far better than the Salamanders... but as far as the rules go, it's Salamanders all the way.
I saw a razordon painted in orange and yellow that was being used as a salie and looked awesome. You can do that if you like.
Sallies all the way or if you cant be bother load up with lots of 10 skirmisher squads and stay out of their arcs double tap double tap double tap all the way.
Im pretty sure dragon princes have been FAQ's recently to get a 2+ ward against flaming. Only a small difference but worth mentioning.
Check out banishment in lore of light. Basically designed for phoenix guard as itll wound on 3's and then he'll only save about a quarter of those wounds with the re-rolls (opposed to half).
