7th Ed. playing brets this weekend need advice

    i'm playing brets and can't think of a way to effectively beat them they are way overpowered 2+ armour 4 or 5+ ward on units that attack 7 times at str 5 or 6 and 7 times at str 3 plus, are almost guaranteed to get the charge if they play even mildly smart and don't get me started on grail knights how do you stop them from just running right over you skinks can't out run them krox get charged and die saurus the same they get magic resistance from damsels so slann have trouble casting stegs can't hit worth a damn and terradons seem like they would get abused so i'm pretty much stumped (i'm still using the old army rules so keep that in mind, even so new rules would be usefull for upcoming battles)

    use skinks to lock them.
    the bretonnian lance has one big dissadvantage, and that is they have big flanks.
    this means you can get alot ofenemy units on the flank in combat or what im referring to, they have a very odd and broad wheel.
    if you are capable of getting skinks 1" from the flanks. then you are actually directing them straight forward becouse they cannot wheel anymore.
    and becouse you are march blocking, they only move 8" forward.

    bretonnian are not that hard to defeat ( they have a 5 or 6+ ward save btw, not 4+( except for items maybe)
    they are fast, hard hitting, and can have a punch. but they lack mobility and strength when not on the charge.
    a stubborn stegadon or temple guard with a 4th gen slann could do well. ( cast at the units with no damsels!)
    get a jaguar saurus for backup. if a unit is locked in combat just hammer them away with the jaguar.

    also try to get the bsb as soon as possible, if he got banner of the lady then he can be even nasty without charging you!

    grail knights are no problem at all!, they die as easy as any other knights, except they strike more and harder. so dont let them see combat, just flame them away with sallies and steggie bolthrower!

    I have found that the best way to stop those guys is with fleeing skinks. Granted... the person I played most recently against is like 10 years old, but it could still work on older players. What I did was ran my skinks straight up and then just stood there. If he charges them then I just flee, or if they are far enough away I'll just eat a charge and die to bring them closer to something, if you can charge the bretons then you will probably win. A particularly effective way of stopping them if you can't out bait them is to aim a stegadon at the are immediately in front of a temple guard unit and just eat the charge with TG, then on the next turn flank them with the stegadon, the steg impact hits are brutal, and most of the knights are not immune to psychology, even better if you happen to be able to use an ancient stegadon. The slann can in fact still be amazing, even with their ward save the Lore of metal will bring them down hard, you can always just let the slann throw a ton of dice at something and hope for irresistable, if you are using old rules then he can't miscast anyway, and if it works you can toast the crap out of something valuable...like grail knights! Also, if you set up some terrain in the mid field, scouting skinks can make march blocks happen, and your opponent will have to pay the "skink tax" as I call it, losing 1 or 2 guys in each lance to the occassional succesfull skink pew.

    Thanks for the help guys the skinks 1 inch away was a great tactic and my slann just rained death with lore of metal I took two steg's slann 2nd gen plaque of dominion, plaque of tepok, diadem of power and war banner two skink priests 2nd lvl 1 power stone and one scroll each they got forked lighting and d3 rerolls, and the comet and urions bolt i also took 40 skinks in 4 units all scouted thous i only put two of them out front and three units of saurus 15 large each just standards 2250 points btw i got really lucky with the steg's on the first turn they took out a total of 5 grails with blots one through the flank for 3 and one from the front got 2 my skinks killed two questing knights the first turn of shooting as well, he had some horrible rolling, dice gods must hate brets slann killed 3 his first turn from various units priest with the comet brought it down but he dispelled it in his magic phase that was a wasted power stone but i ended up with more base dispel dice than he had power dice his turn he tried to chase some of the skinks which was great because that meant i had only three units moving foward steg one missed steg two hit and killed one more grail, priest with forked lighting killed a 2 more knights slann got spell 6 on lore of fire (can't think of the name right now) to go off and almost wiped out a unit killed like 3 or 4 and got a hit on his general with the first spell of iron skinks didn't kill any knights this turn besides hitting 7 times but with the way things were going i couldn't complain he got to charge the next turn and hit my saurus lines because they were beat down so much 2 units stood the one on my right crumbled ran and got overrun by the grails mostly because of his general my turn i charge with my slann into the flank of the far left unit of knights they lost combat res and ran middle battle was a slight victory for me but he stood his ground moved my steg's to charge the grails next turn at which point he conceded i barley lost anything and his face was red from frustration

    Well done! The Old Ones are pleased with such a victory over the medival fools of Bretonnia!
