Have a 2000pts tournament this weekend, was wondering roughly how people distribute their points amongst Lords, Heroes, Core, Special and Rare? Need to be able to face all comers so just rough ideas are fine, just want to get a handle on how much to allocate to characters really. Thanks.

It depends on what kind of list you are taking. I'd say anywhere from 500 to maxing out at 1,000 if you are character happy. It's pretty easy to brush up against the limit with characters. A typical Slann for me runs anywhere from 325-450, so that's quite a good chunk of my army. If I go Slannless, maybe 25% of my army will be characters.

In my current 2,000 pt list I have close to 700 on characters, 700 in core, and the rest in special or rare. I always bring at least two sallies.

I agree with Qupakoco. That is about what I take. I generally go all out on Lords (at least one Slann), then get as many heroes as possible. Meet the minimum core. Then fill in at least 2 sallies. I follow that up with chameleons/terradons and TG (if I am taking them).

I usually fill lord with Slann, heroes an EotG and a scroll, rod caddy. Then scores of skinks and saurus, maybe another steg, and dot the i's and cross the T's with chameleons, salamanders and whatever else I feel like playing. Cav, Skrox, TG, whatever. Pretty meat and potatoes to me. The difference comes with the Lore choice. Play to win, or try out a different approach? Fun either way. For you, usually.
