    Hi guys,

I've never played with a slaan before but I recently got one and am looking to use him in a 1250 point escalation campaign (all armies). My thought was to put either rumination or becalming on him along with the plaque of protection which gives a 2+ ward against ranged. I'll have a skink priest with a dispel scroll for magic backup.

Am I on the right track or should I just stick to good ol' skinks at this point level? What are your thoughts?

At that low level game, the best build will be rumination. It will make the slann extremely powerful. The best lore would be Life as you can get 4 spells (without loremaster) and have a good shot at getting throne of vines for the miscast protection.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pointer Arli. I was leaning towards Life already so that confirms it :)

    Cheers

OK, so I'm starting to reconsider going with life on my slann. The reason is because I know I'll be versing VC's next week and, looking at the spells, light will be more effective overall (although more risky with no miscast protection). The VC player plays with primarily ghouls. Main reasons are:

    1) I use a skirmish-heavy army with plenty of terradons, cham skinks and skirmishers. Often, the augments from life won't be that effective (esp against lots of poisonous ghouls!)

    2) The light spells aren't that costly. By the looks of it, most spells can be cast with 2-3 dice quite easily. This heavily reduces miscasting potential.

    3) The +D6 hits on undead will help to reduce his blocks considerably before CC

I'm playing with 1200 points (not 1250 :( ) so have 300 points to use on the slann. Obviously I can't equip the DPoP anymore. I already have a skink priest equipped with a dispel scroll. Any ideas? Anyone think I should still stick with life? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Make him BSB or give him a talisman of something?

Actually, I'm toying with the idea of giving the slann the bane head. This would mostly be to target the vampire and try to get rid of him early on (doubtful). I could go BSB but I'm not sure how effective that would be as a lot of my army is skirmish oriented. It could come in handy though on those 'need-to-succeed' roles! Thanks for the suggestion.

Good plan, but loss of the general is not as big an issue any more. Bane Head may work, but I personally wouldn't use it- not quite as useful as it would have been against the old VC book.
