Hero - "Skank," level 2 Wizard plaque of tepok, diadem of power (runs with the skink unit) Core - 20 Saurus, HW/S, Full command 12 skinks, Full command, Krox 20 Saurus HW/S, Musician, Standard Bearer Special - Stegadon Total 1000
I would prop drop the stegadon and go with a few salamanders, and mayby slightly cut down the saurus unit and get some terradons or chamelion skinks to go with that list. im not a fan of skrox units feel you would be better of with skirmishing skinks
I am a fan of skrox units, but not that small and not at this points level. i suggest this: Drop the krox Give your priest a cloak so he can fly, but keep him within 3" of any unit and he will still get his 2+ look out sir roll. use the spare points for a sally make your skinks skirmishers Yours Aye Mixer
Thanks. What's a good Saurus unit size for this level? 15? I know I need 5 per rank for the bonus, which is why I figured I would beef them up to 4x5.
20 is a good number per unit, they have some staying power and dish out the pain well. I know at this level people will say the steg is expensive points wise and its true, but on the flipside of this people are going to struggle to cope with it at the same time. Yours Aye Mixer
even at these points empire/dwarf/ probs orc and even skaven armies will have a warmachine capable of popping the steg. i think at this points level after play testing my own list salamanders are awsome, and centre it around a large block of saurus and run a few skirmishing skinks with blowpipes really mess people up, also if you can fit in 3 kroxigors (as krox unit) at this level a lot of the units they will face wont be the horde level or large units in 2000 so they can cause a serious amount of damage but a steggadon i feel is to much of a point sink and if you lose it will be hard to come back from
Skink Priest Rod of the storm Cloak of Feathers 20 Saurus Spears Musician 15 Saurus Banner Musician 10 Skink Skirmishers Blow Pipes 10 Skink Skirmishers Blow Pipes 3 Kroxigors 2 Salamanders points 999 is similar to what i ran at 1000 points when i tested and did quite well, the spears hold the main line, the skinks harry and use poison to thin down units and the krox and the hw/s saurus are the hammer to the spears anvil and use them to grind the enemy. the salamanders are brutal and can thin out units before they hit your lines. the priest stays withing look out sir range of the units and fly around to support where nessisary
I should add at this point that my first game would be against Daemons, with a large number of plaguebearers. I was worried that the sallys would be inefficient against models at T4 with a ward save.
i thought nurgle didn't get the ward save, they relied on being tougher, hence why you don't see many nurgle lists. I could be wrong though Yours Aye Mixer
My friend tells me that bearers do have a 5+ ward, but they also get a 4+ regen if they have a herald. So salamanders are not the easy choice I thought they were. Regardless, I have a list that discards the Steg in favor of sallys - let me know if I'm onto something. Hero Skank, level 2 Wizard plaque of tepok, diadem of power Core 20 Saurus, Full Command 12 skinks, Full Command krox 20 Saurus with spears, Full Command Special 2 Salamanders, each with four handlers Comes to 957 points...more skinks? I need ideas.
Something Similair: Heroes: Skink priest – General Lvl 2 + Diadem of Power + Cloak of Feathers Core: 30 Saurus Warriors: (6x5) Full Command 10 Skink Skirm Javs + Shields 10 Skink Skirm Jav + Shields Special: 7 Chameleons 7 Chameleons Rare: 1 Salamander Hunting Pack + Extra Handler 1 Salamaner Hunting Pack + Extra Handler TOTAL: 998 Magically defensive combat build. Cloak to place the skank priest in ideal spots if you go aggressive with his spells. Diadem to accumulate dispel dice. 14 chameleons (28 shots/turn) to hunt mages + characters. Skirmishers have jav and shield so they can move a lot and still put down shots and stand and shoot if taking a charge to redirect or tar. They are cheap and effectively disposable. 30 Saurus block is my biggest problem in the list, as it is both strong and a big ass target. I would aim to get my skirmishers and sallies on top of shooting units asap. While the chams take out any possible warmachines etc. I do have another build that splits the sallies into 2 units of bout 20 and drops some skirmishers.
Ah Just for reference: Heroes: Skink priest – General Lvl 2 + Diadem of Power + Cloak of Feathers Core: 20 Saurus Warriors: (5x4) (Anvil) +bearer+musician + spears 16 Saurus Warriors: (5x3) (Hammer) +bearer +musician 10 Skink Skirmishers Special: 7 Chameleons 7 Chameleons Rare: 1 Salamander Hunting Pack + Extra Handler 1 Salamaner Hunting Pack + Extra Handler TOTAL: 1000 This seems like a fun list as well.
thanks Mitch! finally some one who uses a big saurus block and chamo skonks in a 1000pts list. I though, give the priest plaque of tepok. why would you want a priest to fly? give me one reason.
Flying Priest: Defensively it makes it stupidly easy to keep it out of danger. Archers coming to close? Fly Away! Don't like having a LOS with that warmachine? Fly away! you get the idea: Aggressively. Heavens needs a fair bit of LOS and some positioning. Imagine flying into position beside an enemies line and getting off a successful chain lightening through 5 of his units? on the first turn. Priest just made his points back. Wind Blast can benefit from positioning no end. Aggressively, the cloak is touch and go. Defensively it's very powerful. I will mainly be taking my priest for magic defense so who knows. Depending on what I am facing I might swap for Plaque of Tepok instead of diadem. Or any number of combo's. The cloak + diadem is a full 50 pts, so you can swap anything on the priest and still fall under your 1000pts.
