    Take a gander:
    Saurus Oldblood - 281 points
Shield, Obsidian Blade, Armor of Destiny, Carnosaur

This gives him a 1+ Armor Save and a 4+ Ward Save. (Including the multiplying wounds from the Carnosaur) this build has the ability to dish out 17 wounds, 12 of which have a -4 Armor modifier for being S7, and the other 5 ignore Armor Saves completely.
I'm definitely taking this guy to Spring To Battle in my 3k and 4k lists.

You didn't add the carny to the points cost.

I'm really hesitant to run with the carny, after you get a few games in let us know how it does.

    o_O Yes I did.
And mind I'll be running him as well as a Slann and an EOTG if I can fit it in. So there'll be plenty of magic buffing going on as well.

I've got that build as 461, the oldblood + carny alone is over 300 points... are you sure you didn't add the cost for a cold one instead of a carnosaur?

    :D

Yea, I thought it was too good to be true too. 281 is him with a cold one. Unfortunately its 461 with a t-rex.

No worries, it's still a very solid build.

i cant help but feel you'd be better off with a great weapon than the obsidian blade. either a lot cheaper, or a load of points to put into another magic item.

Got to agree with this, chances are the Oldblood won't be striking first anyway, and who cares anyway? With a more than decent toughness and a decent save... Might as well go for the great weapon and other magic items ;-)

Not to mention the OB is S 5 as it is. giving him a Great Weapon is cheaper, and will be having a -4 AS also. It would be easier to wound and be cheaper too. Finally, most Lords and Heros will have an Ward Save anwyay, so the extra points could be spent on other stuff. I find The Other Trickster's Shard is helpful if you're goining character killing, or a potion to help kill other stuff.

That's an interesting point. I'll have to consider that.

Great weapon goes good with the venom for 10 more points. Might as well make it magical and poisonous. Never know when you'll run into some wraiths or other non corporeal types.

I'm getting some great ideas here. I think I'll try this setup:

Oldblood & Carnosaur- Great Weapon, Armor of Destiny, Dawnstone, Other Trickster's Shard

The terrific thing about the shard is that it should synergize well with the carnosaur, forcing them to re-roll versus it's attacks too. With 1+ re-rollable armor and a 4+ ward of his own, the Oldblood is tough to kill, negating somewhat the effect of ASL.

I think this will make for a nice character hunter, especially with magic support.

Hmm interesting, the 'strong' builds for OB on carny really have changed a lot from 7th ed haven't they. Good to see not everyone has jumped on the Slann bandwagon, the OB is still a cool character.

At what points level do you think it becomes viable to take both a carnosaur and a Slann? 3k plus?

You can run an OB/Slann combo at 2500 points. Neither will be fully kitted out but your still getting a CC monster and a superior spell caster.

I've loved the OB since I got into LM. Their stat line makes them worth taking a minimum of magical items. Their only down fall is initiative and leadership. I feel that being a lord but with the same leadership as your Saurus core is a bit of a hit below the belt.

I do like the GW/venom combo. Very nice and cheep weapon combo that gives you a better percentage at wounding (any sixs negate the need to roll those dice again for wounds).

While we are discussing OB's, I building a list and am doubting wheter I should take 2 OB's (one in a unit and one loose/on a cold one) or take just one and put him on a carny?

Either way I saw some interresting builds that I will use for inspiration

Heh, great minds think a like (or is it fools seldom differ?). I was about to post the same build (which is what I run with). I used the bane head instead of the shard for a while, but making the enemy re-roll those inevitable 4+ ward saves is a much more reliable way of finishing them off than doing double wounds *if* it get's through (cos sometimes you only need to get 1 wound through...)

Either way, don't waste your time with a 50pt, ignore armour save weapon. Face it: You will be striking last against any opponent character, so just embrace the Great Weapon. At S7 it's a -4 armour save anyway, and you'll be wounding on 2's instead of 4's against most combat lords, and 3's against monsters.

Anyway, I can definitely vouch for this build.

    Hi,
I'd like to refresh this topic,
I'm a newbie to Lizzies and whfb, so this question might be a little erem... stupid:)
Is the Hide of the Cold Ones a good choice? I was planning on equipig the old blood with this, the frenzy charm and the 5+ ward save, giving him a great weapon because he will go last most of the times anyway.

The Hide isn't such a bad choice. People often scream that stupidity will ruin your chances but if you think about it, taking Hide isn't any differant leadership wise than putting your OB on a Cold One.

Which brings me to my only real drawback with the OB. Leadership. An EIGHT, c'mon give me a break! A Lord should not have the same leadership as the core unit choice he had adapted from.
