I've got some money coming to me - a present to myself to help me get through a visit from my awful family from back East - and I'm trying to decide how to spend it. The following configurations of lovely lizards appeal immediately, though I am open to your suggestions. 1) 1 Bastiladon, 1 Carnosaur, 1 box Terradon/Ripper riders 2) 2 Bastiladons, 1 Carnosaur 3) 1 Bastiladon, 1 Carnosaur, 1 Stegadon 4) Something else of approximately equal value - explain below. For context, I have a pretty typical Lizardmen collection, including a couple of mage-priests, a ton of skinks and saurus, some temple guard, some cold one cavalry, a couple of salamanders, a multiply-magnetized stegadon... you know, the usual stuff. I've also got a pretty typical collection of characters, including a skink priest, a scar-vet/oldblood on foot, and a scar-vet/oldblood on a cold one. As you can see, I'm pretty interested in adding some more monsters to my list. I definitely want to buy at least one bastiladon and at least one carnosaur. I suppose I could be maybe talked out of the carnosaur - I know it's kind of a corner-case unit - but the model is so freaking pretty... Anyway, I need your guidance. I plan on exploiting some Black Friday deals, so I may be able to get more than I bargained for . But let's plan for the worst and then rejoice in the best should I be lucky enough to enjoy it, yeah?
2 bastiladon, 1 ancient steg and convert your own carnosaur for about 1/5th the price using a Papo carnotaur/allosaur/trex. You must really hate your family to need this much distraction from them, I feel your pain
It's not so much that I hate them as it is that they are extremely difficult. They've been behaving themselves lately, but the years of bad behavior have made the experience kind of stressful, and it's going to take a few years of good behavior to make their visits uncomplicatedly pleasant.
I would go for option 1 or 3 but as you've already got a magnetised steg maybe option 1 swings it. They are all very nice kits
Yeah, I'm in agreement for option 1. It'll get some variety and lots of spare bits for conversions. Good luck playing the avoidance game!
Option 1. It's a nice variety of monsters for your collection and it means more options for you when you play. Either way, win/win for me.
The new kits are nice, but purely from a competitive stand point the Stegadon is the only unit of those 4 that really ills its weight in the current army list, so I'd go with the option that includes him. The Bastiladon is fun, but you do eventually come to realise that the steg is so much better for an extra 65pts that the basti almost doesn't have a place.
Also, it seems like bastiladons would be better in multiples since initiative 2 isn't much better than initiative one honestly...
Well, yes, but I have to own one bastiladon before I can own two bastiladons, and part of my buying philosophy that has served me in good stead is to buy expensive kits when I have extra money and mainstay kits when I have an ordinary amount of money. The buyer's remorse for "I just bought $75+ worth of plastic!" is a lot less when it isn't coming out of my 'usual' money. You know, I could use more skinks... and more chameleon skinks... and probably even more temple guard... but this is extra money, so I want to spend it on extra things. Maybe I'm the only one who does it this way.
And of course scumbag GW doesn't give a discount at all on their $300 lizardmen bundle..... Since all the boxes in it add up to $300 still.....
Well, I magnetize my stegs, so it's no big deal which I have. I think I've made up my mind to go with Option 1, and if the discount is big enough, add the second stegadon.
Hey all, just an update: 1) I went with Option One: the carnosaur, bastiladon, and terradon squad. I figure it would be most fun to add a lot of variety to my collection so I could learn to use some new pieces. My next purchase is likely to be a second stegadon or bastiladon - or, if I decide I really like them, more terradon riders. Barring that, I probably need more skinks so I can make a squad or two of skirmishers with javelins. Anyway, the matter is decided. The Black Friday/Cyber Monday discount was pretty tasty, but I ended up being tempted away from Fantasy by a box of assault terminators for my Knights of Blood army, since someone gave me a land raider crusader for them to ride in... 2) My awful family was... actually, not very awful. Honestly, they were kind of awesome. Nary a nasty word to be seen, and only a little of my brother's casual "I have no filter" douchery. It was kind of touching, actually. I'm trying to avoid becoming too hopeful, but maybe I've held my own and lobbed enough love-bombs that they're finally come around? Time will tell, I suppose.
