The last two times I've played my VC friend he's won by using purple sun on me. I dispell it when he doesn't IF but given enough chances he typically gets it off. Now given our Int when it goes over my Saurus block they all just pretty much die. How can I deal with this?
If you take a dispel scroll on a Skink priest and Cube of Darkness on your Slann you can stop it twice, as long as he does not IF. Other option is the dispel scroll from the MRB that destroys the spell on a 4+, cannot remember the exact wording of item or its name right now. Just wait until he casts it the first time, use the scroll and possibly remove it totally from play for the rest of the game. Chances are he is using 4-6 dicing to get Purple Sun off, there is a slight chance you could kill his caster using the Banehead and feedback scroll combo. Other than that hope he rolls a misfire and nukes himself.
Make sure to take Becalming Cogitation on your slann. No 6s within 24 inches for that caster! He cannot get the spell off that way. If he uses a power scroll, it only halves the casting value, so you should still be good. Another thing to do is take Lore of Light. I10 Saurus only fail on a 6. Cube of Darkness and a dispel scroll are good too.
The only time he gets it off is from IF, I've dispelled it up until then. I'm looking to take Becalming Cogitation from now on along with Rumination and then use Life. If I run Light I'm going to run Loremaster.. Mystery? because the one time I did run Light I didn't get either of the attack speed augs due to terrible rolls during spell selection. I would however prefer Light if I'm taking a Skink Priest along for a Dispell Scroll bot just so there is the off chance I could MM through him with my Slaan. Again though, I'm scared about using Light without Mystery because I did manage to roll terrible during spell selection. My VC opponent has been taking 3 casters. One with Death, one with Shadow, and one with the VC specific lore. (I'm still at 1500 points, going up to 2500 at the end of next month)
Take Light! As a VC player as well I can tell you straight up, a Slann with Light is one of my worst nightmares. The magic missiles are brutal (you get an extra die for number of missiles) and the speed buffs mean that even Grave Guard are going to have a hard time weathering the sheer number of attacks either Saurus or Temple Guard can put out. Take a careful look at his character set-ups as well. If you can get it a suicide charge in to kill vampires can easily be worth it. Hero level vampires tend to not have a lot of protection if they cast well, or they cast poorly and have good combat skills. Pyre
