Hi everyone, I am new to the forums but not Warhammer/GW. It's been a while since I've bought a resin/finecast model from GW. Has the quality improved much or is it still the same material? I've found it to be way to soft for any sword/staff/feather and I am worried about buying the Astrolith bearer and having the pole break or have him fall over all the time. Thanks in advance for any replies. Cheers,
same material but better then it was a few years ago. you wont have to wory about the Astrolith bearer breaking but i would advise you weigh him down so he doesn't tip over he is very top heavy
I still think they have too much weird flash and bubbles and warping, but it is still OK I guess. I'll rather have them in resin than not at all.
Personally I haven't had any bad experiences with Finecast, as I have the Skink Priest with Feathered Cloak, a Dwarf Runelord and an Ork Warboss with Attack Squig all in Finecast and they're all pretty well-made, but perhaps I've just been lucky. You may well have to be especially careful with the standard pole for the Saurus Battle Standard Bearer because my Ork Warboss' Bosspole did break off once, but I did manage to fix it back on.
The worst ones IMO are - Slann and Kroak, specifically their palanquins (details distorted by warping and flash) and in my case Kroak's mask (some "teeth" missing). - The Eternity Warden's weapon, which was extremely warped on mine and almost drove me insane. - one of my Kroxigor had a really bad case of warping in the weapon as well.
Thanks for the feedback. My finecast tyranid venomthropes did fit together okay but those tentacles are so soft. and all the bubbles.. I also have two necron characters with staffs and spikes and I am terrified to transport them. The forgeworld resin is great compared to finecast.
That's disheartening to hear about the slann and kroak, our most powerful characters could be a mess. I could kitbash the warden but no idea how to kitbash a slann. Cheers!
It is not _that_ bad, it just requires some more work. People who can paint really well (not me) or have some skills with greenstuff (also not me) can surely make them look perfect, but even with my limited skills I'd say they look decent, despite their problems. Here is a link to page 10 of my blog, with pictures of my Slann and Eternity Warden. http://lustria-online.com/threads/aginors-painting-blog.19114/page-10#post-193564 Lord Kroak is on page 38: http://lustria-online.com/threads/aginors-painting-blog.19114/page-38#post-248185
