I want to start playing bit smarter. but im not sure what models i will need real bad. So could u guys reply with your idea for Must-have Units so i can test it in my army.\ Thanks in Advance
The answer is simple: Skinks! If you run a list that is skink-heavy; you HAVE to play different. Our Ws2 T2 lizards simply cannot go into CC with anything stronger than a zombie... Back it up with 2 (decent-sized) units of saurus warriors. To give you something of an anvil. Add in some terradons, salamanders and chameleon skinks. Mix it with a bag of hammer-unit(s). And you are set to go! Really, the thing with 'smarter' play is the supporting troops (IMHO). Once you get the hang out of using them, you can control the game. Everybody can use 5 big blocks of saurii and march them up. But it's harder to use only 2 and have lots of support walking around. Skinks, skirmishers, chameleons, terradons, salamanders, SV on CO... Watch out for 'panic lanes', watch out that you don't overcrowd an area, and prepare to have a laugh when your skinks perform like heroes, or die miserably to a cold breeze... Good luck! The Hunted
Agreed with above except for the Chameleon skinks. Just have never found them all that useful, or at least being able to do a job that my cheaper skinks (or Terridons) couldn't do and generally better because there are simply more of them. Essentials to the army are skinks with a few saurus to lock enemy units so your skinks can get the charge. Think of it kinda like the human body, the saurus are the heart and skinks are veins, and the more you have the better (within reason of course). Core aside, the only other necessary unit is a unit of at least 3 terridons. Lizards need to knock out those enemy war machines and terridons are where it's at. cheap, fast and they drop rocks on any unsuspecting unit of fast cav they happen fly over. Just watch out if you field more than 1 unit cus some people will start shouting cheese. Everything else you decide to field is personal preference.
Thnx ^^ ill keep them in mind and use them. But i dont want all skink armies...although i've heard more bout them. i still want to go more the big dino kind like carno and stega and kroxis
Chameleons could be great if you had the right terrain setup in 7th, otherwise they were so-so, this is much less of an issue in 8th where the only restriction to them is 12" away from enemy. They can now be in plain sight. This means if they don't protect their big guys or war machines you can get a lot of poison shots at them first turn. wow you must play with a lot of really whiny people if 2 units of terradons cause them to call cheese, I just can't see that. The only possible cheese I see in our army is stegadon spam, which probably won't be so cheesy in 8th.
My "group" consists of me and m a friend of mine. We each play too armies so it's not so bad (as far as diversity goes). No one in my area plays fantasy, only 40k and some card games. He's only said something once and that was based off of a tourney army ranking system were more than one terridon unit was considered cheese. The rest come from discussions online, where most of the people are power gamers anyway so it's more of a funny than anything else.
