With our characters being S5 getting them to join a unit with the standard and giving them the blade makes them reduce armour saves by 5.
So has anyone used this combo?
How has it worked for him, i can see it mostly usefull for dwarf survivor lords and their ability to tie units up for ages.

I dislike the burning blade since every time my saurus has got into combat against a hero, they always have some immune to flaming attacks. (always elves XD)

The dragon armour was FAQ-ed to be a 2+ ward vs flaming rather than immune so small nerf on it there.
Still in a HE heavy meta the blade is definately a bad pick.

IMO Piranha Blade always over BoC. 10pts more, more effective against multiwound targets, about same vs. regenerating things

Call me stupid but how is it the same?
Pihrana blade is still useless if he passes his regen save.

It's not the same. BoC is, IMO probably a better choice for a scar vet/OB

I meant same if he doesnt pass his reg save it's about as effective as Piranha Blade. (statically, let's say you fight vs. Wargulf with scar vet, 2 hits, 1 wounds, no rege cause BoC. with Piranha blade, 2 hits, 1 wounds, 0,5 saved, multipled into 1.). Althought flaming is now better thanks to new regeneration rules, I'd take Piranha Blade over BoC. Flamers/ wraiths and such dont care about flaming attacks, but douple wounds hurt them.

personally i think they're both poor, i'd rather take a GW, be good against most stuff, and then take some decent defensive items to keep him alive.

to the original question, i wouldn't have thought many people would bother with that combo as there is so little cavalry about atm.

Assuming Lore of Light, i'm unsure about the BBoC now that characters have such easy access to 2+ wards vs flaming attacks; that used to be the territory of Dragon Princes and Dragon Armoured HE characters, but now for a small handful of points, your main character can get it and an increase to his AS to boot, or you could spend half that and just get the 2+ ward.

I'm not really a fan of spending points on a weapon that has a good chance of coming against a character that can simply ignore it, and i'd prefer to spend it on something else.

For any lore other than light (or no lore), i'd prefer SoSS/SotH/G-SS over the BBoC or the 'rana Blade.

I think the -5 is a bit overkill.
BBoC is still AMAZING should you be facing WoC (something I may be considering).
