Was told the other day that if you cast REGROWTH on a SKROX unit only the Skinks grow back, not the the Krox because they are considered upgrades. I did not press the issue at the time; but I would like some confimation on this. If this in fact true, can someone point me to where in the rules where it supports or debunks this claim. Cheers
Unless it's in the Errata I call bullsh%t. Regrowth specifically states that champions are resurrected first, then musicians, which are both 'upgrades', and then multiple Wound models, and then rank'n'file. I would say that this means that Kroxigor in a mixed unit would be healed before regular Skinks (unless the champion and/or musician are dead). There is definitely nowhere in the rules that I can think of to support your friends position.
JesseS' has it correct. That is per the BRB. I can see that it could possibly be argued that if all the Krox are gone; there are only skinks left in the unit. Even that is a weak argument though.
You can definitely heal wounds on kroxigor in a unit like that, in fact the order of regaining wounds mean you have to. The problem is in some situations it's impossible to place the krox and according to the rules, they are lost. Regrowth says you have to add to either the front or rear rank and says the models are lost if this is not possible. The spawnkin rule for krox says they always have to be in the second rank unless too few skinks remain in the front creating a wider back rank situation. So unfortunately once you start losing krox (whole), they are usually gone for good.
I don't have my big red book with me but doesn't the spell mention that you are allowed to displace rank-and-file models to allow models to come back in?
Only regrown command models displace, the rest will have to go in the back. Or the front if your unit is down to less than 1 rank anyway. Edit: Just thought of this. If you're at a point where your unit is too big to get your krox back you can reform them to 1 rank, so when you cast regrowth to get korx back, both the criteria of spawn-kin and regrowth are met. The korx go into the back, which also happens to be the second rank. Then next turn reform back into a proper formation.
