Heya Im an old lizardmen collector who has returned from a long time of inactivity. I started collecting back in around year 2000, you know, when infantry looked the same and Slaans still looked like cartoon frogs with wierd haircuts. Sufficent to say, alot has changed in my absence, and I was looking for one or two nudges in the right direction upon my return. My current models include 16 saurus cavalry, 10 Temple guard, 1 Slaan, 1 oldblood on carnosaur, 36 skinks, 20 saurus, 1 stegadon, 2 skink chiefs and 1 skink priest. Taking into account I can of course not use all of this at the same time, what would be the recomended next step for a beginner in the gaming world? Special units seem to be the bother at the moment, since they incoporate all the interesting things, like cavalry, Kroxigor, Stegadon, temple guard, and my personal favorite, terradons. And yet we are restricted to 25%, which in your common game would be around 300-500 pts. I digress. To put it shortly: What would be the recommended next purchase based upon your own gaming experiences? Taking into account most my matches will be against Skaven or Vampire counts. Also: What school should I give the Slaan? Heard alot of mention of "life", is that the way to go? again, against Skaven and Vampires? Any basic tacctics to reccomend against the above mentiond armies? Which special units to choose? (Again, above...armies...thing...) Thanks in advance for any help offered.
Hello there and welcome back =) ! I my self returned a short while ago. After reading and playing few games i writed this. I recommend you to check this too http://lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=5977 But i can list here some most radical changes: Stedfast rule. If opponent has more ranks than your infantry he gets stedfast so that means he dont get any minus to his Leadership from combat resolution (Works like stubborn) Fear & Terror nerf. Fear minus -1 hit if opponent failes fear test. No more running. HORDE. If you have rank 10 wide you can attack from 3 row All infantry can now attack from 2 row. Not 1. And dont get minus from death's. So they always hit max number So everyone plays big blocks So to lizardmen: Cold ones are nerfed. They cost too much. Enemy infantry has most likely stedfast. and fear is not good Salamander rock nowaday Chameleont skink rocks nowaday Terradons and stegadons are descent now Stegadon with character (Especially EOTG) is Bad. Cost much. Does not do what it used to. But baby (regular) or ancient stegadon without character is still decent Lizardmen are strong army these days. 4. Best i think So i suggest you buy some chameleont skink and salamander. Here people divide in to basic 2 group in my opinion. Those who play skink armys. Those who support saurus armys.. I my self am middle. I myself run 1 Slann, 2 Saurus warrior unit, 1 TG unit( /w slann), 2x Chameleont skink unit , 2 Scar Vet, 1 SkroX team, 2 Salamander divided in 2 teams to avoid injurys Cheers Puhnupetteri
Thanks for the reply. Such a pitty that cold ones have been nerfed. Did take a look at the army book and at 35 pts base value the cold ones really are horrible when compared to the far more mobile Terradon for only 30 pts. Real shame, since thats the special unit iv got the most of (16 cold one riders). Well, it looks like i'll be getting some Terradons and Chameleons then, as well as maybe two Salamanders. Not a huge fan of Kroxigors nowdays, although I think thats mostly because I remember the days when these monsters had 5 str and 5 toughness. a few questions though: Javelins or blowpipes for the skinks against massed hordes of undead and skaven? And do I make em a chocort (however that fekking word is spelled) or do I make em schirmishers? And do I use them to screen my saurus and temple guard like the good old days, or do I actually zoom off with them to molest the enemy?
Personaly I put cohorts in front of my Saurus when i can, and save the blowpipes for the skirmishers, (have them avoid close combat if at all possible). Javelin skinks are better in combat due the the improved stand and shoot and that they can also take a full command and have shields, meaning that they get their WH/shield ward save and a tiny bit of armor.
