Android Application: An army builder Version 3.1.4 by Olympic Arts Cost: EU 1.99/USD ~2.60 (If you uninstall it within 24 hours, you will get a refund) What is this app? This is an app that will allow you to build an army with all of the abilities and items that can be found in the various army books. This includes command groups, equipment upgrades, mounts and magic items. What isn’t this app? This app is not a replacement for your various army books. It’s pretty much an advanced point calculator. At this time it has neither unit stats nor any rules. Also army validations are a bit weak so it will not tell you if your list is in compliance with the rules. This app is also not the next White Wolf Army Builder. This is a much more basic app focused on the basics at this time. What is this app good for? This app is handy to make a list on your android device and save it for further use. I’m not sure about you guys but I play 3 armies, ranging anywhere from 500 points to 3000. That means that I’m always carrying around 8 lists for each army. If I want to change something at the game store it’s easier to just start over. With this app now I will be able to make/save all of my lists, and if need be change things out easier. Being able to just pull out my phone and make a list is very handy. Have you ever ended up playing teams and noticed it would be better to make a new list so your armies are not over lapping on strength or defense? Ever play someone who wanted to play an oddball point size? Ever want to make a battle report and save your opponents army list? This app will let you do it. So want a look at some screen shots? After you select a new list, you get the above screen. You select the army you want to play, name the list in case you want to save it and put in the point limit. Above is a list of supported armies. I would like to point out that they may have bugs. I checked everything I can think of for the VC and LM lists, but the others you will need to check. If you find anything, the developer will push out a new version. The bugs I found were fixed within about 12 hours. When you get into the main list, everything is broken down. Unlike Army Builder, you are not able to put lords/heroes in the various units, but it will track the point value of each slot. The above is an example of how you build your lists in the app. A few more comments: You may have noticed the E-mail and Save buttons on the top right of the main screen. The e-mail button is more like a export button. It lets you export the list to another application, including e-mail, but also to note pads, Facebook and even TTS! I'd also like to say that the dev has been very helpful and open to bug fixes and suggestions. Also I want to point out that the dev has lots of idea's for improving this app, including a better list over view that will have stats and rules for each unit. At this time, the magic items section does need work. The items have no description so you need to look up the items you want to use. Also the magic item sections are not yet in place, for example, a Slann can pick a magic sword. This is being worked on but will take time. Last comment, when you select a unit and put in the number you want, that does not include command models. So if for example you wanted a unit of 20 Saurus Warriors with a Full Command, you need to enter in 17, then check the boxes for the command models. It's a bit goofy I know. Questions/Comments? Please feel free to post. Have you tried it? If so what do you think? EDIT: By the way, on every screen shot, I blotted out the point costs on spacific units and magic upgrades to fit in the guide lines of this forum.
Spectacular work, Cobra7! We need some sort of award that the board admins can grant for public service efforts like this. I think they might have been discussing just that on another thread at one point... The review was a huge help, and as soon as Ogre Kingdoms are supported I will purchase the program and the phone to run it. My brother is waiting for Chaos Warriors, then he'll surely get it as well. Alas, I cannot award you anything, but if I could, you would have 20 Lustria gold pieces and a sacred plaque!
hi, Great review. @Gor-rok: This weekend I am hoping to add Ogre Kindoms I have read the book and It is not that hard to configure it for the application. To respond to Cobra7 on the idea that are still floating around (ie. on my tot list) Stats, Descriptions for magic items, spend points per section, exchange of lists between app users, Download lists from the website, download configurations from the website and the random magic spell generator and much more. And most of all, I will try to add as much idea's in the game as possible, without slowing it down. Kind regards, Marc
Supper sweet! I down loaded this down a few hours ago and have been so busy with it I wore down my battery. So far the only thing I saw quirky was GW options for Lich Priests (high and reg.) But I know thats not right so I don't add them. To the creaters of this app, 2 thumbs up!
The e-mail button is a bit misleading, it's more like an export button. There are apps that allow you to print to wifi printers that you can export the list to, or you can e-mail it to yourself and print it from your PC. Myself, I export it to AK Notepad (best notepad on the market IMO) and then share it with others.
