Over the course of playing Warhammer league at my local game store, I got to be good friends with the resident Chaos Daemon player. He takes the hobby very seriously, only plays with fully painted models, and has a full gaming room with the Battle Realm board and all the terrain pieces. We developed a legendary rivalry during the league, fighting numerous battles against each other, and that continued over into 8th edition. He wipes the table with most opponents, and came in first place in the last two store tournaments, but for some reason he can't beat me to save his life (the only time he's won was our very first game, but admittedly he's been getting closer lately). Conversely, I get beaten regularly, have never won a tournament, and didn't even place in the last one, despite defeating him yet again in the final game. Anyway, the aforementioned tournament was last Saturday, which also happened to be this guy's birthday. Despite his loss to me, he scored enough points crushing the opponents in his earlier games to win the whole thing, and got the prize for best painted army to boot. He was about as happy as I've ever seen a person, and we went out on the town to celebrate. Wild times ensued... Fast forward to one o'clock in the morning, as the club closes down and we get tossed out. I don't drink much, as I have a commercial license and need to keep it, but he was pretty well tanked. Since he only lived a few blocks away from the place we ended up, I didn't think anything of it. As he got in his car to leave, he said, "You know, I think this has to be in the top ten best days of my life." He sped away, literally, and I took a few minutes to call my girlfriend and make up some excuse about where I'd been all night before heading home myself. Had I left a minute earlier, I would have seen my buddy's car miss the turn just ahead and flip three times, end over end, before crashing into the back of a house. I didn't even see it as I turned past, that's how far into their backyard he was. Now he's in the hospital with broken ribs and crushed vertebrae, his fast car is totaled, his girlfriend is so mad she won't visit him, and, to add injury to injury, his Best Painted Army was still in the car- he keeps them in shoe boxes on magnetic trays, so there was no foam to protect them. All the Daemons were destroyed in the crash, ending their journey after so many epic battles against my Lizardmen. I want to try to fix the Daemons while he's recovering; it's gonna be a very long while, but I have no idea where to start. As bad of shape as they're in, I can't believe he's even alive. Moral of the story, folks: Never, ever, ever drink and drive.
Wow that sucks. Sorry to hear it, I hope he is able to recover. Drink driving definitely isn't worth it, no matter what the distance is.
Ouch! That's really all I have to say. But I hope that he comes out well soon. Hospitals suck, so I really hope he does. As to fixing his army for him, I can only wish you luck. He will probably appreciate it a lot no matter the result, unless of course it looks worse than after the crash. Cheers!
That's a bummer. I wish you friend a speedy recovery and hopefully this won't be an entirely life-shattering event for him. Good on you for repairing his army - I'm sure he's going to really appreciate that.
Glad to hear that he lived through the crash, Best of luck fixing up his injured amy while the doctors fix up his injured body.
Best of luck to your friend and his recovery. Also make sure you take what should be taken away from this... Never drink and drive. Never let your friends drink and drive, take them home, its not worth it.
Thanks for the concern, folks. Quick update, they let my buddy come home, but he's bedridden for the foreseeable future and is doped up on all kinds of painkillers, etc. I made the offer of working on the Daemons, but he wants to do it himself when he feels a little better and is able to move; as he put it, "I have nothing but time now." This is great, as it gives him something to focus on during recovery. I'll do what I can mowing the lawn or something. Heh, never thought I'd be this eager to fight Daemons...
You'll remember that sentence when you play him again Best wishes to your friend, and his daemons, that's all i can do from behind my computer. The Hunted
