Hi all...first post.. Pg. 15 of V7 states that after Marching, a unit cannot then also shoot missile weapons. The Sallies weapon is the Spout Flame (rather handy at 15" with a possible 10 hits !)...ok great.. ...anyway, the Spout Flame is not specifically mentioned in V7. My point is - take the Dark Elves Hydra which has a Breath Weapon with very similar wording to the Spout Flame (they both specifically state they are not allowed to "Stand and Shoot" for example). While Marching, I found to my distaste againt the Hydra, that it can March (12") and THEN still can fire its Breath template (8") weapon giving it an effective range of 20" because the rules state that a Breath Weapon can do this and as mentioned above, that only missile weapons cannot March, then shoot. Ok...it's obviously not a missile weapon then. Along the same lines, I presume the Spout Flame is NOT a missile weapon either and the Sallies can also March and then shoot giving it an effective range of 26" correct? Tx much! Due to the hole in the rules in this case, that might be up to you and your opponent or tournament leader if you have one. In my opinion, I'd say no, because keep in mind Salamanders do NOT use a breath weapon. Not to mention if you think about it, our Sallies are much more deadly then the Hydras. While he can hit a number of guys, he'll have to roll majority for a 4+ with a partial hit and the flame probably isn't that potent. While Sallies can easily move 6" then shoot a 15" inch shot that auto-hits with a potential of 30 auto strength 3 hits armor piercing. Will Hydra fire may wound low toughness and armored creatures such as Skinks, I doubt it'd hurt upgraded Saurus, while Salamanders, being a form of skirmishers, can see 360, move over terrain without penalty, and auto hit with fire that I've seen crush some heavily armored cav such as the Cold One Knights or Dragon Princes it seems obvious to me. So in my opinion, you should not be allowed to do so. And as for him having an effectiveness range of 20", that would mean we have one of 21". I hope that helps.
well as far as i know, they cannot march and shoot. Btw...The new hydra is also a skirmisher (move through terrain and stuff)and can do almost everything a sallie can! and Sallies killing SCOR is easy! one wound generates a 4+ save (scaly skin= 5 , thick skinned makes it a 3+, but with the armour piercing it will be a 4+) and with one wound..... They die from leaves falling down on them! Other heavy armoured fellows are not going down that fast..a 1+ save becomes a 2+ save......But then again with enough hits, you force your opponent to roll allotta die and sometimes the magic number 1 appears! Not to downgrade the Sallies...I Love them.....Not for heavely armoured dudes, but measely groundtroopers (elves, humans, skinks, some deamons, goblins, etc.) drop like flies! I always field them! (Well that's not completely true i sometimes field the steg (at 1K), for fun. But sallies are my number 1 rare choice)
Yes, as mentioned above, you cannot march and shoot as the weapon is not categorized as a breath weapon. Now, this might and should be clarified and has been the subject of debate recently (Thorpe and others at GW have suggested that people should now play the spirit rather than the wording...).
It differs... Sprout Flames, should indicate that it is a flaming attack....(but when reading the rules, they mention acid and not flames....) Most of the tournaments play them as flames, but sometimes the TO makes the call that it is not. My playgroup always plays them as flaming........
What? Anyone have a link to the FAQ? *wonders* Where do we even find out about FAQs? Been playing for flipping ages and never heard about FAQs....crap now those Dragon Princes are REALLY going to be a thorn in my side!
