Now, i know many people prefer the salamander to the razordon because it munches large units (and its handlers) with ease, but having said that, the razordon does have the potential to cause a lot of damage and the model looks great. there are 2 main aspects to this argument, and it would be great if u could rate each one from one to ten on: 1. its combat cabability 2. its appearance and painting potential plz post your replies and may the best beast win!
Well, the salamander has spout flames whereas the razerdon has shoot barbs. Spout Flames: Pros: Lowers the armor save of the enemy by -3. Flaming attack meaning no regeneration. Uses a template for the area which is effected. Cons: Its range isn't very reliable. Shoot barbs: Pros: Solid 12" range. Strength 4 attacks. Can fire up to 10 barbs at once. Cons: Armor saves are as normal. In my opinion i prefer the razerdon. This is a salamanders weapon: This is a razerdons weapon: Salamander: Combat: 8 out of 10 Painting: 7 out of 10 Razerdon: Combat: 9 out of 10 Painting: 7 out of 10
Sadly most of the things Razorndons are good at regular skinks are good at too, and they are cheaper. so most people go with Salamanders.
The 'main aspect to this argument' is combat capabilities??? (they are shooting units with exactly the same stat line) But with regards to combat, i would say the razrodon wins out as it can stand and shoot (and gets two art dice when it does), the sallies cannot stand and shoot. Model wise, i like the official razordon better.
Salamanders are the best of the two. As far as base stats go, they are the same. So, in combat there is not difference. The ranged attacks are where the differences lie. Salamanders recieved a huge boost to their ranged attacks in 8th edition. Razordons have been nerfed in 8th edition. Salamanders cannot stand and shoot, but can march and shoot. This gives them an effective 30 inch range (if you roll a 10 on the artillery die). That figure adds in the 8 inches from the template as well. Razordons, on the other hand, can and must stand and shoot. This is a nice feature and gets you 2 rolls on the artillery die for their number of shots. However, if either one of those rolls is a misfire, they cannot shoot. Also, if the charging unit is within the 6 inch range, they cannot stand and shoot. Also, the razordon cannot march and shoot (per our rulebook). If I had to give them a number ranking, I would say that the Salamander comes in at a solid 9 out of 10 and the razordon comes in at a 5 out of 10. Some may argue that at least the razordon can stand and shoot, I would say that you should almost never hold for a charge with your salamanders anyway (unless there are no other targets to shoot at or you need to redirect the charging unit). Model wise, the razordons look a lot better though.
Lol, no kidding. I think we've covered this in about 15 different threads over the past few weeks. Sally == Template + march AND fire w/fire. 9/10 Razor == Can't flee + march OR fire w/o fire. 6/10
um, no he didn't. not even sure why you'd post that. To contribute, I'd rate their paintability: Razordon: 9/10 Salamander: 7/10
Hello, I Find Razordons better than Salamanders only when fighting an Euro comp. battle. Where Salamander units are 0-1 choice. And you deploy for a specific opponent. When you take the lore of Metal on your Slann Mage, and Cast enchanted blades on the Razordons. They can be as deadly as salamnders, and thats It. For 70 points I have 10 skinks, than can march and fire and have poison. And for 72 (still cheaper than the Razordon) I have 6 chameleon skinks.... which are way better.
Never been a fan of the Razordon models. Current Salamanders aren't horrible... I have one of each, but I prefer my old one with the big fin.
